If Hyman wants and gets 6x7 then those talks earlier in the summer of 6x6 for Mangiapane actually looks accurate.

We talk about the Flames getting elite players and spending the rumored ask for Hyman is exactly the type of move they need to avoid. I really hope the Flames are in here to drive up the price for the Oil.

I am starting to circle back on Hall being the guy especially if the rest of the top forwards remain. I think Hall can be an excellent winger for Monahan and it allows Johnny to continue to be on the loaded top line with Lindholm and Tkachuk
I want Hall. I think he's going to sign a contract with term, and for a reasonable rate...and I just want that guy on the Flames. If we aren't making "huge changes" to the core forwards up front that are already here, then adding in Hall and Hyman would be cool from a short term "win now" outlook.

(I'd love Landeskog...I just don't think we'd have a shot)

Yeah Strickland said they're making good progress in Boston.

According to CapFriendly the Oilers have a roster size of 19 with 11.5M in space and the Flames have a roster size of 14 with 13.5M in space. As of right now the Oil have a lot more flexibility to overpay than the Flames. Frans Nielsen, Zach Kassian confirm Ken Holland is no stranger to the free agent overpay

The oilers have the cap space to add him. They are in desperation mode so they will be aggressive. Plus they are always looking for that guy to play with McDavid. I think they have the least risk signing him because you can put virtually any player with McDavid and he’ll put up good numbers. And Hyman has shown good chemistry playing with dynamic players.

The canucks have what might be the worst cap management GM in the league. They have so many bad contracts it’s crazy to think they could sign another top six forward. Especially since they have to find ways to pay Hughes and Petterson both now and when they need big raises in 2-3 years if it’s true they are going to be signed to bridge deals. Not sure Hyman really makes sense for them.

There’s lots of pressure on Treliving to do something to win now. Not sure if Hyman is the best target for that but I feel like Treliving will be aggressive. If they get Hyman, I think that takes them out of the running to get eichel.

Toronto-centric.

1. Every Leafs spare part is highly coveted.

2. Every free agent is clamouring to play in Toronto.

3. Every emerging young talent in the league can be had for a song (see 1.)

I don’t see a scenario where they can get Hall and Hyman but more of a Hall or Hyman and in that scenario give me Hall all day

Always thought they had more holes to fill, namely in goal but I'd be glad to be mistaken here Also do not want the Flames to overpay though I wouldn't mind Hyman here at all (but not at a gross overpay).

I think that Hyman is like Frolik 2.0. He was an advanced stats darling this year. He did seem to improve whichever line he was placed on. I really hope that if the Flames get him it would be along the line of $5M x 4yr(or less), those tweets about a 7+ year term scare me a lot. Nervously awaiting Brad's Swiss army knife analogy, after we sign him.

I don’t believe their current space includes Klefbom going LTIR and then there are the rumored buyouts of Neal and Kostkinen.

If they give Larson 4-5M and then pay a goalie $5M they will need to get some buyouts if they want to spend big on Hyman.

My prediction is that is exactly what they do

Hyman reminds me of Nik Antropov; the only reason we are aware of his existence is because he played for the Leafs.

I look at Hyman as if Andrew Mangiapane was a Maple Leaf and headed to free agency.

I know everyone wants a rebuild, but that isn't happening. If they are looking to make the team better, Hyman is a good candidate to be part of that.

Over the last 2 years, he has a highre PPG than Monahan, Backlund and Mangiapane. He would slot 4th among the Flames, only behind Gaudreau, tkachuk and Lindholm. He is a top 6 winger for sure, and maybe a good fit with Gaudreau and Lindholm.

To say that isn't worth $5M is laughable. He is totally worth $5M and I love the way he plays - exactly the kind of guy the Flames need.

Seven or 6 years is of course frightening, but if that is the price you pay to get a UFA, then so be it. The cap will be much higher by then and if you have to buy out he last couple years, whatever.

I think he would be a great add. Better than Hall actually (for what the Flames need), and he will be cheaper.

I really really like Hyman, like a lot, but 7 or 8 years to get it done? Yikes. Better be looking at $4mil or less at that term, jesus.

But all that said he is exactly what we need

Hyman wants an eight-year deal? That's laughable. The Flames should stay far away, these types of players are normally done by the time they're 31-32.

It is worth noting that Mangiapane is 4 years younger which is why Hyman at 29 for 6-7 years scares the hell out of me

Yep, absolutely.

I like the player (Hyman).

4 years is an ideal term, 5 years I could be convinced on because of free agency madness. 7? That is a bad, bad idea.

This sounds like the agent trying to create false competition to drive up the price of the only interested party or make a team look like they are getting a deal once signed.

Now what team does that sound like?

Treliving’s desperation to make a move could make him over-pay for Hyman. Sounds like Hall is sticking with Boston. I think Minnesota is about to go all in on eichel and, if they do, the flames can’t match without giving up tkachuk too. I don’t know landeskog is an option but he will likely cost even more than Hyman. Hyman may be Treliving’s only shot at a big fish this offseason.

I also think the oilers will be just as aggressive. Holland got out-bidded by treliving in the Markstrom sweepstakes last summer. He’ll probably be willing to add that extra year or that extra million to prevent that from happening again.

Maybe the Swedish Mafia we've been building up here would entice him? Any of his buddies on the Flames?
