Friedman looks like he got out of bed 30 seconds before going on air half the time so I'm not so sure being presentable is a cornerstone of being on a Sportsnet panel.
Let's keep it a buck since this is a topic. Women and men have different criteria in how much importance their appearance factors in to the job as an on camera personality. Women's appearance definitely has more weight than it does for men. Not to say a less attractive than average women can't/isn't in the same role, but it's naïve to think that it isn't taken into consideration from those who hire.
The type of industry also does play a factor also. Friedman's appearance probably won't work that well if he was a personality for celebrity news shows instead. But for sports, the consumers - majority men - don't care about his, or any other males appearance at all, and just care about their knowledge and insight.
EDIT: Well I see in the very next page this was discussed already, so late in this response.

When I made that initial comment it was to someone saying that looking presentable matter when you're on TV. I was simply pointing out that for some people on the panel that doesn't seem to apply, using Friedman as an example.
I guess I should have been more clear that I was pointing out the irony in that presentation matters, but apparently only for women on TV, or at least moreso.

Systemic racism doesn’t exist, a black man can succeed at anything if he’s good enough! Lol.
I guess the exception disproves the rule. One woman did it, therefore it can’t be true.
Your point is valid, but to be fair, the US did have a black president for eight years. So Corsi is not necessarily wrong. But yes, those that a maligned have to do significantly more to get to the same point that others can with much less effort.
I’m sure there are many considerations when employees get let go - tenure, salary, competence, etc. So it’s sucks that these two who were good at their jobs were let go. Meanwhile Hedger still lives in mediocrity on prime time. Yeah I said it.
I don't care what people say, looks and appearance matter in the media, on tv and in show business. There are reasons why they all have clothing budgets, professional hair and makeup people, stylists and more. It's a visual thing and that's the way it is.
I'll just go out and say it, Natasha is a FOX! She know's, I know it and other's know it. She was excellent on TSN, I will miss her on the desk and I wish her well. I am sure she will get back in front of the camera in some capacity soon.
As for other Bell Media cuts and the media landscape in general, we need to have an open and honest conversation at the federal level as to what needs to be done. We are literally chewing out our entire media talent in this country as American companies continue to take over in the FB, Google and more space. It doesn't benefit anybody to think otherwise what is happening is good.
Also, what is up with our weak federal leadership with regards to these taxpayer subsidies and these large corporations? Are they that useless that they couldn't negotiate some longer term employment in exchange for wage and income support programs? I love how the best we can do in exchange for sending billions to corporations is hold them responsible for their contractual obligations like Air Canada and Westjet for refunds.

I wonder if Dan’s tweets this past summer contributed to TSN choosing Jay over him
Exactly what I was thinking. On top of the fact that, love him or hate him, Jay IMO is clearly the main character of that show, with Dan just kinda playing the Michael Bluth straight man role (which is kinda funny, if you listen to their podcast: Dan is actually the crazier one). Not overly surprised they held on to Jay while cutting Dan loose.
Sad to hear that, definitely the end of an era. Agreed they just seem older now and past their glory days. But I'd still watch J&D after NFL night games when it would go straight into the show, and enjoyed it.
Hope Dan will be ok (I know financially he is. I mean his private life & mental health), its obviously been a very tough last few months for Toolsy.

This is such a deliberate, intentionally antagonistic, mendacious misstatement of what I was saying in my post intended to smear me. I can't believe the mods allow this kind of garbage on here. People can just make up #### and try to tar other posters with it without consequences. Drives me nuts.
Putting it bluntly, you're a lying sack of crap, and I don't know why I bothered trying to even respond to you.

I'm obviously not about to argue that it doesn't matter, because looks are clearly a part of why people are successful in that role and while it's also true for men, it's more true for women. But I don't know that I agree with the second statement. I'm thinking specifically about Rachel Nichols, who's not, yknow, unattractive, but I don't think anyone would say that she has her show because of her looks. And she's one of the most respected and talented NBA commentators out there, because she's great at what she does.
It's clearly harder for women to succeed this way, but if you truly kick ass at it, it's also possible to be right up at the top.
There are many Doris Burke is the main ABC NBA reporter Berh Mowins does play by play. And as been mentioned here, Jennifer Hedger is TSN's #1.

Just to be clear, I view Hedger as an equivalent to an Air Canada flight attendant. No effort, and living on tenure to hold the position. Gaillard is still the standard for vets in that role. Comes across as professional, fun demeanour, etc. Hedger gets the remote to click elsewhere.
if thinking someone is beautiful is sexism, then I guess it's sexism
Its 2021 . You can't comment on womans or mens looks. Also white woman are not allowed to teach free yoga at the university of Ottawa. The last reference is a bit dated but hey that's the crazy world we live in

Remember Headline Sports? Who knew they were so ahead of their time? Because it does seem inevitable that highlight shows will go that way as budgets will keep getting slashed. Every sports league has a YouTube channel that offers much better highlights then what is on SportsCentre, and it's on demand and you don't have to sit through all the other highlights you don't care about.

Thanked for the use of "mendacious". And CHL is right on this one.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
Kate Beirness is awesome but I don't even know what she does for TSN anymore. I haven't seen her on the air in around half a year. Maybe I just watch at the wrong times though.
