Another solid road effort. This team is pretty good when they put in the effort and get solid goaltending. Anytime you finish above .500 on an eastern road trip visiting the two top teams in the league it's a success. Hopefully this translates into some better play at home.

I thought the Flames back pressure today was really good, it was almost impossible for Florida to generate anything off the rush as a result. The only pressure they had was from forecheck/cycle. In particularly I notice Dube breaking up several plays on the backcheck. Very impressive.
3-1-1 is an unreal road trip that without a doubt kept this team in the hunt for the division.
I have just been thinking a bit about Gaudreau and Monahan and since Ward took over on November 27th the Flames have played 40 games and Gaudreau leads the team with 36 points. Monahan has 27 points in that same span, which is pretty pedestrian for a top line centre. I know there is some support for dealing Gaudreau in the off season but I just think that would be a huge step back for a team that is already offensively challenged. I also think it's almost a miracle that Gaudreau is at close to a PPG pace during that span with Monahan struggling so mightily this season. I just wonder if Monahan's 82 point season last year was an outlier and 60 points is more of a realistic expectation in terms of offensive output for him, which to me is not what I want from my teams number one centre, especially for a team that has aspirations of competing in the playoffs. I truly don't see how this team can address how thin they are down the middle and I think it's a huge glaring weakness for this team.
Tough game. Calgary needs points too. If we win this game we are battling with Columbus for 8th. Fingers crossed!

The problem is with D and Goaltending primarily. At least we tried by signing Bob. It’s been a massive failure but at least we gave it a shot.
The D is a different story. I honestly hope I don’t see a single name playing D for us again next year other than Ekblad. We basically need an entire new D corps. Yandle, Matheson and Stralman are addition by subtraction and Weegar/Brown are easily replaceable.
We’re stuck with Bob unfortunately so we’ll just have to hope he recovers his form. If not, at least put a competent D lineup in front of him so he’s not under barrage every night.
Oh yeah, another thing. I think Bob Boughner deserves an apology. I think it’s pretty clear now that he did everything he possibly could with this team.
