ts basically a salary dump with Schaller

Canucks add a good piece to their lineup, however the west is wide open....

Why not take a chance, there is no guarantee they will contend next year...

Sure they are moving a prospect and a draft pick but other teams will make the same move (i.e. Penguins and Coyotes)

Dimitri Filipovic @DimFilipovic

That deal the Canucks just made is the type of trade you make when you’re one player away from winning a Stanley Cup, not one player away from making the playoffs

Stecher or Tanev might be gone by Monday, we have this guy named Rafferty whose ready to step in.
Yeah I hadn't thought of the Pearson-Toffoli connection, that was huge in 2014.

Brogan Rafferty is good too, I like him.

I'd heard about a conditional pick being involved in this deal. Does your tune change if this goes from as it currently exists to involving two seconds?

I am glad that the flames didn't pay that price. That being said, canucks did the right thing. They are a playoff team, perhaps with home ice in round 1. Show your team and your fans that you want to make a push for bigger things.

(Yes, I'm bitter treliving added nothing to the best flames team in 30 years at the deadline last year, nor did he do anything in the offseason).

Does seem a little early to be dealing away picks like that but the rebuild has definitely gone quicker than I thought it would.
I think it mostly has to do with the weakness of the division this year

No great team

So I have no issue taking the chance on riding one of the top 3 goalies in the league this year so far

If vegas was who we thought they were or the flames were having their regular season from last, different story imo

Canucks have one more point than Calgary and have traded their first and second

To say TT is inferior to any of our current RW options to where you'd have trouble slotting him in over any one is nutty talk.

I think its a poor move trading away all your futures when you clearly aren't a contender.

Personally, I don't think any acquisition would propel this team to the next level. If it did, then it would be costing major assets.

Glass half empty, for sure, but this version of the team, this year, isn't going to get it done.
Better to do the work in the off-season and free agency

This would be like the 2014-15 flames going for it lol don’t mortgage the future when you’re having one good year in a weak division.

They got 2 points in hand. The canucks have been rebuilding for years and have the prospect pool to take some swings. Will it payoff, who knows, but I would be really happy with it if I were a nucks fan.

Sure they also have two games in hand and they are 1 point behind the divisional leader (i.e. Oilers)

Any team who makes the playoffs in the west can make a run.....

I would bet the owners want the revenue from a playoff run

Not sure what you're trying to prove, but Toffoli is currently 21st in goals scored amongst RWers with 18 (would be 3rd on the Flames entire roster). He is 2 goals shy of Mark Stone, in 2 fewer games played. He is 39th in points per games played at .59 (would be 5th on the Flames).

Calgary would be a better team with him on RW, the only real argument is if he was worth the acquisition cost.

It won't...they get dominated every game and win when their goalie stands on his head. TT won't change that

I’m not super impressed with Petersen (based on all of 1 live viewing) so that price wouldn’t have killed me.

I don’t love Toffoli but wouldn’t mind if Petersen is dealt as part of package for a top 6.
