I have zero desire to see Jack Hughes toil in obscurity in New Jersey, Florida, or Arizona. I have even less desire to see Edmonton scapegoat him for organizational rot.

Montreal or Vancouver would be my choice - Chicago a distant 3rd. Adding Hughes to Chicago's core might give them enough to make another legitimate run for it all.

There is a long, long way to go from drafting first overall to dominating the Western Conference every year.

Here’s a video of last year (don’t know how to embed) showing the draw. It’s super exciting. The excluded combination is 11 12 13 14.

First and foremost they are in the Eastern Conference now.

But the team's future is looking pretty crappy. One of the least intimidating all around in the league. Kronwall was still playing 20 minutes a night for them. He's 38. Green's another top 4 who will be done by the time Hughes makes an impact. By that time they will also need to replace Nielsen, Vanek, Helm, Abdelkader as they are all 30+.

Going to take a lot more than Larkin, Hughes and Zadina to get them out of the basement.

Have they already done the lottery and 6pm is just a show to reveal or do they actually draw like a real lottery and televise it?

Just show. The actual lottery is taking a number of combination balls to decide the winners.

Here they just do a countdown of the draft positions by opening up an envelope with a team's logo in it (and it's obvious if a team is skipped they have won a lottery and are drafting in the top 3).

Hughes and Kakko should both have the good sense to not sign with the grease should they get picked.

Kakko has got to have seen what is going on with Puljujarvi, who’d want to sign up for that?

Hughes has seen what’s happened to the last 4 first overalls, if he wants anything more than just a huge paycheck, he could spend a couple years in the NCAA.

Just play CHL for 2 years and he's back in the draft.

Of course the Oilers would likely win again anyways.

It would be better if they would draw 1 numbered ball every 6 minutes and after each ball, update the affects to each team's combination odds. Then get down to the final ball and you could show:

If it comes up 1, 4 & 7, the Oilers win
If it comes up 2 & 8 Col wins
If it comes up 3 NJ wins
etc. etc.

Would be more interesting than talking and commercials for 48 minutes and then flipping over some cards.

The only West team I'm rooting for here is Arizona.

Now I just want to see Montreal win to drop the Coyotes back a spot.

I agree, because any type of show they have now is better, the issue is that the first overall is picked first, so it sort of ruins the excitement for the next 2 winners. The second issue is that the fourth ball still would have 11 combinations, so there exists a probability that all but four teams are still in the race. So there's no real buildup of the first three balls.

If the 1001st combination comes up I want to see the GMs fighting over a pile of envelopes.

So when do we actually find out the results?

I’d guess about half an hour. Right now it’s just a playoff preview.

I'd prefer they have Hughes go up and do that.

Just so when he pulls out the Oiler's logo we can hear:
