Expecting a great game from Rittich. If the flames play their game it should be a win.

In the San Jose game, when Rittich went out to play the puck and turned it over to Brent Burns who then scored to give the sharks a 2-1 lead, Rittich was pulled immediately. When Smith went out of this net to play the puck... and stayed out there for some reason... Minnesota scored to make a 2-1 game. Smith, however, was not pulled at all. He then let in another poor goal later when the flames were making a late push.
It’s just frustrating how short the leash is on Rittich compared to Smith despite Rittich showing as the better goaltender this season.

Rittich was pulled after two bad goals in a very short time frame. And Peters said it was because of his reaction. How he looked.
Those bad puck handling goals were a little different too, but that's another analysis.

A big reason why Vegas is even doing remotely well this year is because Fleury has 8 shutouts. Imagine if goaltending bailed out our team 8 times this year. We would probably be on par with the Lightning's record this year.
Anyways, let's get this back on track.
I hate the leafs. Go Flames Go!

Nothing like giving a player an extra reason to want to perform well and shove a chant right back down your throat.

Or maybe it crushes his spirits and gets him off his game like it did on Long Island?

But why would John Tavares care the slightest about how fans in a city to which he has no allegiance, and where he has never lived react towards him? It made a big difference on Long Island because he was drafted by the Islanders and played his entire professional career to that point for just that team. It makes no sense for Flames fans to taunt Tavares like Islanders did. It will likely not mean anything at all to him, unlike the affect it had in his former home.

Why? He didn't do anything to the Flames or us the fans, I don't agree with what he did, but starting that chant is ridiculous.

So many bets with coworkers on this one, please win flames.
It would be great if the first line could dominate and if Rittich can have a solid outing - we need him to play well to have any chance in the playoffs.

Vegas x2 and one against the Coyotes. Hope they can pull this one out as those two against the Knights are going to be killers.
Lose this and there is a good chance this month starts 1-4

I thought the Flames had the easiest schedule? Must be a cakewalk after this week!

Peters addressed this directly and said that pulling Rittich in the SJ game was actually all about preserving his confidence. The coaches even contemplated putting him back in net to finish that game.

As GioforPM already pointed out, it was late in the game. But I would also add that coaches are want to treat their young players a little differently than multi-year veterans in the twilight of their careers. There is nothing remotely odd about the differences in this regard.

The leash-length is both experience-based as well as performance-based for the Flames goalies. One of them is young and just starting to break through as a bona fide NHL starter. The other is winding down a lengthy career. This has a lot to do with how differently Rittich and Smith are handled by Flames coaches. I would actually hazard to guess that these differences show that they are most concerned about protecting Rittich and ensuring the best path of development for him.

Funny, I don't share most people's hatred of the Leafs... but that in no way makes my desire for a Flames win any less tonight.
Victories vs. the Canadian-based teams are always extra special. In order of wins providing joy:
- Edmonton
- Toronto
- Vancouver
- Montreal
- Winnipeg
- Other

Sigh. You make the Knights sound like the Sens.
Also to reiterate, I didn't say they would lose. I did say there was a good chance. Doesn't mean I want them to lose. Doesn't mean for sure I think they will. But I've covered that. In this thread.

By pointing out that they are a full 12-points back while giving up two games in hand, have scored more than 30 goals less, and allowed one more than the Flames? By noting that the vaunted Vegas Knights have a middling road record of 16-16-1?
They are not the Ottawa Senators, but VGK is sure as hell not the Flames either. They are demonstrably an inferior team.
