Brodie is playing okay but I haven't seen him use his backhand stretch pass yet this preseason. That thing was amazing, like right there with any other Dman's forhand stretch pass.

That and the fact he was a roster player that could contribute right away is where there was value. I think him taking that roster spot gave more time for other picks to develop and eventually pass him.

I think sometimes people associate too much value with draft picks. For every Bergeron, Weber, Lucic etc in the 2nd round, there are thirty-fold players like Mitch Moroz, Marco Roy, and Robbie Schremp.
Yes, but was he any better than something the Flames already had in the system at the time? No. Is he an NHL player on a playoff team? No.

It's not the end of the world, but I would have rather the Flames used that pick themselves as a trade chip or actually select their own player to develop or crash and burn instead of giving the Senators a free pass on that bust.

Agreed

Am I the only one who would like to see Dube given a long look with Bennett and Janko?

Agree 100%. Valimaki isn't quite there

Definite top four potential in the next year or two.
It doesn't seem to be a consensus opinion but in the games I've watched, Anderson has looked the most NHL ready of the challengers hoping to find a spot in the 3rd pairing.

I thought it was a worth-while gamble and was a fan of the trade at the time. Yes Lazar has been a disappointment but part of it was, as someone mentioned, about timing. Getting a player to help ASAP. And hoping that said player could grow long-term with the core as he is the perfect age to do so.

With that said, it obviously hasn't worked out. I like to highlight the "Found Money" that Treliving has come up with though, including:
- Foo
- Gadwin
- Czarnik (We think)
- Rittich

So in my mind Trelivng hasn't left the cupboard bare. We have a great prospect base (6 or 7 young guys pushing for spots right now) and we've acquired some assets for free. So although the results didn't work out (or haven't yet and probably won't)....good on him for swinging for the fences!

Andersson has the skill, I just don't think he has the footspeed.

He gets wrapped up pretty consistently where he has to wildly throw the puck away. Hasn't burned him too badly yet this preseason, but I keep noticing he doesn't have the ability to skate himself out of trouble.

And there was a chance late in the game for him to use it. The Jets were changing and Brodie had the puck inside his blueline with an open winger up the left boards. A 75 ft backhand pass would have sent the winger in alone

But he either didn't see him, or didn't feel it was there.

I would suspect that in another month he makes that pass easily (as he would have 2 years ago).
