Well given the Flames weren't going after rentals unless they thought they could re-sign them, they probably go after Evander if he hits UFA.

Will be interesting to see how he does. Hope it bombs for SJ.

Thornton is still injured.

Here's the condition of the first-round 2019 pick in the Evander Kane deal: if the Sharks re-sign Kane, it's a first; but if Kane walks into free agency, it's a second-round pick in 2019

Smart condition for the Sharks who may very well have zero intention of re-signing him knowing that will mean the loss of the 1st round pick.

That would explain why it's a 2019 pick. They won't know for sure if he goes UFA until after this year's draft.

Well it’s really a conditional second, if he doesn’t sign. Not as much over an overpayment anymore.

Sharks improved their nastiness factor - which is something all 3 california teams have over us. Chances are that SJ paid the price to ensure ANA didn't get Kane for that reason.
We won't get past any of these teams in the playoffs until we get a bit more nasty in top 9. its why we picked up stewart for free, but hardly enough.

So in other words, the people who were saying "a first for a rental is too much" were correct.

so it was a 2nd round pick for kane + prospect + 4th.
only becomes a 1st if he re-signs

We had a 2019 1st to give, but not a 2019 2nd on the condition. That probably killed it for the flames

So a second rounder, a meh prospect and a conditional 4th rounder?
Realistically, it'll be a 2nd and 4th rounder if Kane walks.
That's pretty weak if you ask me but better than nothing.

The prospect involved, Dan OReagan, is the guy that beat Jankowski out for AHL rookie of the year last season.

Not sure that is the case.
Ferland on the top line
Tkachuk on the second line
Bennett and PROBABLY Stewart (for now) on the third line.
That seems nasty enough for me. I don't see any teams pushing Calgary around.
