I really don't get the "I'd rather see him in Stockton than on the 4th line" crowd. I'd agree if he was younger, but he's 23 and has already excelled at the AHL level. Last year, the Flames 4th liners averaged between 11 and 13 minutes per game ... at this point, I'd rather see Janko play 12 meaningful minutes in the NHL than play in the AHL again.

What is the over/under of when he's back in Calgary. Game 5?
Let's face it -- we still need to make room for Jagr so it's not like we've finalized our roster for the season and Janko will spend the whole year in Stockton. Give it a week or two and I suspect everything will fall into place.

Would much rather have Jankowski play wing on the 3rd line than be forced back to Stockton. Jankowski-Bennett-Jagr would be a dangerous 3rd line. Glass-Stajan-Verteeg would be the 4th line and waive Brouwer and send him to the Ahl if you can't trade him.

Only way is if a injury or trade occurs in my opinion.
Or if Bennett really struggles....

creating room for Jagr is simple - they just assign Hathaway to Stockton. Done.
Jankowski simply gets shafted because two depth forwards have NTCs and huge contracts, another one is on the team for being a brother, another one is safe because they traded a 2nd for him and another one is there for good old truculence. IMO Janko is better and has earned a spot over all of them and just an unfortunate victim of the numbers game ... probably takes an injury or two before he's back. And that sucks because he's really earned a spot.

if jankowski does indeed stay down, it would be horrific judgment and decision-making. let's see how it plays out in the next week.
meanwhile, with a fourth line of glass/stajan/lazar, it looks like the flames want to repeat last year's season opening strategy of 'let's spot teams points when they can get their good players against our character pto leaders'

Surprising that so many fans seem to misunderstand what role an energy/grinding line is going to play on a team

Or maybe they put Glass on waivers for the purpose of sending him to Stockton after tomorrow's game. He's only making what? 650,000??

Unless you can reliably prove that any line employing Tanner Glass is going to lead to more wins or playoff wins, you're basically not saying anything other than "this thing exists. You must misunderstand it because you disagree with it". Cue appeals to authority, size fetishism, pseudo-deterrence, and probably a few ad hominem attacks in 3...2...1...

Add this to the list of bad moves by Treliving
Flames won't ever learn from this mistake. They just make it over and over. May as well withdraw from the draft entirely at this rate as they clearly arent interested in developing players.

It's amazing how this is going to be the first season in history where the Flames don't make any trades or have any injuries to any of their forwards.
Sure it sucks that Jankowski will be forced to spend the whole season in the AHL because of it, but still it's frickin' amazing.

LOL @ withdrawing from draft - as was pointed out earlier today or yesterday 7 of our top 9 were drafted and developed by the Flames
I'm not happy about this either but I have faith that Treliving will be making moves to open up a spot for Jankowski, likely before the home opener on Saturday.

Describe it for us.
This is just a buzzword used to highlight that these cheap, low skill players have some useful qualities. "They can't score, but MAN these guys sure have a lot of energy!"

Too bad our season opener will be missing 2 key guys for the Flames, but if they can steal a win in Edmonton I like the chances for success in the first 20 games (relative to past years). Once Jagr & Jankowski slot into their permanent spots in the lineup I think the whole teams confidence will grow to believing anything (and everything) is possible. My intuition tells me Jagr signed with us because we have the best outside chance of going all the way compared to his other suitors. Why else would he endure the western conference travel, cold winter, increased fan scrutiny, and higher Canadian taxes?
Either way, I'm optimistic. Go Flames!

How many games did Stockton's top forward play in the NHL last year due to injury call ups and trades?

Lol @ being intellectually dishonest. The Flames can draft in the top 10 just like every other team, but they certainly have not demonstrated any ability to develop players.
Our draft record would certainly suggest that Gaudreau was a fluke of a pick. As for Giordano, the Flames are so bad at developing players that they initially let him go.
So that leaves Brodie and Backlund, one of which is a first rounder and took 10 years to develop only to miss his draft-time potential and the other a #2 D at best but no doubt is evidence that the Flames have successfully developed a player at least once.

The "cheap, low skill players" is what fans say. Players, like Iginla for instance, say they play like they are 5 feet taller when they have a fighter in the lineup. So, according to professional hockey players, they serve a purpose.
I look forward, like many, to the day where they don't. But in todays NHL, they still do, unfortunately.
