@Kristen_Odland: Gulutzan said that Tkachuk's hip flexor was bothering him. Could have played tonight but holding him out until Wednesday.

I'm so curious to see the Poirier - Bennett - Foo line I might watch the road game.

Gaudreau vs. Yamamoto will be fun to watch. Skittles vs. Smarties (or whatever BS story the kid has)

lol I find this funny because Yamamoto plays nothing like Gaudreau. Their only similarities are size. Yamamoto plays much more like Tyler Johnson than Gaudreau.

But its the inevitable comparisons (that have already been drawn). We're going to hear them, so let's see some domination on Johnny's part early.

Seems Edmonton evenly distributed there team, where we are sending Bennett, Stajan, 3rd pairing D and prospects. Looks as if Calgary just wants to ensure a 1-1 split

I think that comparison will slowly cool down because Yamamoto won't be in the NHL for at least 2 years if he makes it all.

From watching Yamamoto in the Young Stars tournament I sure didn't see a lot to get excited about. Sure, he was among the best forwards in Penticton, but he doesn't really play on another level like Gaudreau.

I admit to being annoyed at the CP member who insists on calling Bennett "Benzo". In the interest of compromise, I suggest "Beardo".

Who do you think has a better chance at having an NHL career, Kailer Yamamoto or Tyler Wong??

He's small and therefore in the eyes of the media (especially those up north I'm sure) he's the next Gaudreau. And they had that Skittles rip off story ready to go. He sounds like a totally different player (and is) but you just know that's all we're going to hear if/when he makes the team. But, like Beninho notes, its probably not going to be for a while. I'd just like to see Gaudreau show him up.

I don't think the preseason record matters to the Flames managaement. I believe that they care about two things, giving their veterans some reps before the season and trying players out to fill roster spots.
The way I see it, each team fulfils that desire, the home team allows the vets to gain momentum into the regular season. The away team is getting thrown into the deep end, so that they know who can hang at an NHL level.

He is also 18 years old. Was Gaudreau on another level at 18 years old?
Not saying he will be Gaudreau because that is a long shot but the kid obviously has skill as he was seen to be a first round pick prior to the draft.

Well preseason games aren't about winning and losing, it's for evaluating players.
In Edmonton, we have almost all the forwards pushing for the same couple of jobs. Only Bennett and Lazar have spots locked up IMO. So that gives a good chance to compare players in the same bubble directly. Foo, F. Hamilton, Stajan, Poirier, Shinkaruk, Hrivik, Lomberg, Cramarossa all battling with one another.
Even the D are in a similar bubble battling for #6/7/callup. Wotherspoon, Bartkowski, Andersson, Kulak especially.
And in net Rittich vs Lack is a battle in theory. At least a good chance to see how they compare within the same game.

He's a "top 5 dman in the league", you don't put him in the trenches to start off preseason against the flames. Lol
