To be fair to Chiasson he IS playing on the third line. Just because Gaudreau is on his line doesn't make it the first line.

I would say Chiasson is playing well within his ability and skill set. The fact that the Flames lack the depth in order to use him properly as a 15 shift/gm player instead of a 20 shift/gm player is not his fault

Hes borderline AHL fodder.

Its a very strange coaching concept that someone from whom you expect nothing occasionally gives you something and so thats excellent!

But at the same time, if you're on the first line how can there be no expectations?

I agree with you, I have no idea when that starts to make sense, but apparently it works within whatever paradigm GG has created.

Chiasson is just keeping someone's seat warm for next season. I dont know who, but I doubt its him.

Yes, but why are people failing to understand GG is in a position where he HAS to shoehorn someone into a role they aren't suited to as the teams roster has gaps. And it's not like he hasn't tried other options (such as Ferland) and juggled the combinations like crazy with the exception of breaking up the Backlund line, which clearly he shouldn't do.

GGs goal isn't to give JG the best line mate he can, it's to ice our best roster. Right now, the team is playing better with Monahan paired up with our two other decent options, and JG is getting the short end of the stick because Bennett isn't doing his part. I don't doubt for a second that will change, but no matter what the combinations end up being, GG has to shoehorn someone into a role they aren't suited for unless BT acquires a player that makes that no longer the case.

He is not on the top line.

people love to slag a guy like Chaisson when it is really the coaches decision to put him there.

On top of that, it is a guy like Gaudreaus job as a supposedly "elite" player to raise the level of play of those he plays with, not a guy like Chaissons job to carry a guy like Gaudreau.

Johnny has not been very good of late.

As for why wasn't Monahan benched early in the season? Seriously? The guy didn't have a training camp, was injured and was behind every other guy on the team to start, and some of you think the solution was to make him miss even more time and development? Asinine.

I agree with sitting Sam... After a game or two in the stands, I would like to see:

Gaudreau- Backlund- Frolik
Tkachuk- Monahan- Versteeg
Brouwer- Bennett- Bouma
Ferland-Stajan-Hathaway

Let's get Johnny going and I'm completely fine with Tkachuk not benefiting from Backlund and Frolik to reduce potential salary demands down the road

We either have a really good pulse on this team or someone from the coaching staff reads this forum!

At this rate what is Bennett really worth? I mean Yakupov a former first overall was just shipped out for peanuts after not living up to expectations. He would have to be protected in the expansion draft, his play makes it hard to warrant that. I mean I imagine you could get a D-man and maybe a mid round pick/B prospect. We as a fan base value him highly due to his draft status, but if you look at his stats, it doesn't really warrant giving up much. I hope I'm eating crow about this in the next few years but right now I don't see the signs he's about to turn it around. So now may be the time to move on, and get whatever assets we can for him.

The Florida game might have been his best of the season too.

Good Kingston boy!! It's a disgrace, an absolute disgrace that this kid, ya know, 190 points for the Frontenacs and everything like that... and Garbutzman, his dummy coach, is gonna play this Bachmann Turner while a blood and guts guy like this watches the game. It kills me, KILLS ME to see these kids get BAMBOOZLED by a coach like Gilbertson there in Calgary!! Reminds me of Stevie Sullivan and you remember how THAT turned out.

Spoiler!

I suspect the coaching staff has given him a few things to watch from above. I think his play in the offensive zone has been decent. But he needs to simplify his zone entry where he forces it too often.

Make the easy pass through the neutral zone, which should help him limit offensive turnovers and reduce unnecessary hooking and holding when the play turns back up the ice.

Agreed although it's hard to explain why he pops up on the first powerplay unit at times and has been almost a fixture on the other side of Gaudreau. I got no issue with the guy if he was on the bottom six but Gulutzan has kind of forced him into scoring roles and it hasn't been for the benefit of some of the more talented players he's been placed with.

Man I still remember those rants like it was yesterday. He absolutely loved Sullivan and at the end of the day was kind or right on that one.

Jesus, Bennett has shown way more than Yak. Poor comparison.

Has he though? Point numbers are comparable, Bennett hasn't really shone in a defensive role. What has he done to show he is better than Yakupov was after 120 games?

The picture was totally unnecessary. I knew who that was supposed to be after the first sentence.
