Last years top 3 were:

#1 Bennett
#2 Poirier
#3 Gillies

Bennett graduated, and Poirier had an awful season. Gillies missed most of the season, but he was fantastic in the games he did play, and the injury doesn't erase everything he accomplished in university either.

It's not like people have an injured Gillies leapfrogging Kylington or Hickey, as he was already ranked ahead of them to begin with. The only player he passed over is Poirier.

I think it is very encouraging that with how polarizing Jankowski has been with this fanbase since he was drafted he is one of the top two or three prospects for the Flames in his first professional season. This is starting to look like a solid draft pick, and could very shortly be considered a steal.
Can never be sure, but I think the spot where Jankowski was picked plays into the appraisal. I think he would be less polarizing had he been a 3rd round draft pick.

Everybody wants to spot a bargain

I make my choice based off what propect is likely to play for the Flames this year. My choice is Janko! Runner up Shinkaruk!

If this is who will be the second best player 5 years from now it starts to get really hard to answer that!

I can see Hickey, Anderson, and Kylington all being dmen on this team. All top four Dmen.

Forwards? Mangiapane, E2, Phllips. Tonnes of skill there.

In net? Gillies in five years could be a vezina goalie, has that pedigree. Dont overlook that Parson kid either. Never the less McDonald, Schneider, and Riitich could come on strong too.

Base my choice on prospect most likely to make the team this year. No room this year for a goalie, no room for a dman, so the choice is clearly a forward. Most ready is probably Janko due to his dgame.

Never the less I think it is Hathaway that makes the big club. Dont think the flames are going to rush any prospect.

Almost by nature having a highly touted goaltender means almost nothing. The probability of Gillies panning out in any shape or form is so hard to measure that Jankowski's showing of being able to fit in the top 9 in the future takes it for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gillies does hit that starting goalie expectation, but it generally goes from being a prospect, to an NHLer in some form (ala Cam Ward/Murray or Gibson) almost immediately since you can rarely trust small showings (Ortio).

Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2016 - Round 2

Some good prospects in the pipeline but no one is knocking down the door. Our top prospects are fresh out of Junior and college. No one lit up the AHL last year.

Ha. I had forgot that connection. Interesting that we have another forward/goaltender team mate draft duo now.

Kylington for me... rank him higher than Gillies because of Gillies' injury history and the need for him to play a full season in the AHL to see if he's past it. Kylington ahead of Jankowski because his ceiling IMO is higher than Jankowski and rate of improvement seems to be faster based purely on observations I'm reading and hearing...

Well it really depends on how you value these players.

In what order do you put the most value in when you vote?

NHL Readiness?
Current skill level?
Potential?
Trends?
Odds of success?

For me it is something like this

1) Potential
2) Odds of success
.
.
.
3) Current skill level
.
.
.

.
.
.

4) NHL readiness

not sure what you mean by 'trends'

I'm one of the biggest Janko supporters, however, my #2 prospect is Oliver Kylington. Would not be surprised if he ended up as the best player of the all, including Tkachuk.

Wont be voting Gillies until like 5.. he missed a full season and got Sieloff'ed, until he can prove hes not a stalled prospect he should be no where near our top 3.

Last year I think you had some concerns about Kylington's four-way mobility relative to his rep as an elite skater. Do you think that's starting to round out?

He looks like TJ Brodie out there. Not the prospect version TJ Brodie that was lost at times in his own zone, but rather NHL player TJ Brodie from his first couple seasons in the NHL. Honestly feel like he may emerge as a legit star player in his own right. Still a ways to go though. He has filled out quite a bit and is looking more poised. Credited Todd Gill for working with him for most of the last year to round out his game.

The scary thing is that he's even quicker than he was last year, both in terms of his first step and top speed. If he improves as much defensively as he did from last year to this year over the next 12 months... Yeah, that'd be great. The hockey instincts he has are excellent and he's learning how to read plays better. With his speed and other skills, it is ridiculous that he fell out of the first round. I have a feeling that all the other teams with picks will be kicking themselves in a couple years.

Hickey is the classic underrated-by-the-fanbase-but not-general-managers player who flies under the radar and then BOOM! He's on the roster.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Don't be surprised if other teams come sniffing for this player.

Kylington was by far the best defenseman on the ice both days I was at Development Camp. I echo Caged Great in his sentiments that Kylington closely resembles Brodie out on the ice. Such a smooth skater, but also great with the puck.

He's right up there too. I think the top tier consists of Hickey, Kylington, Janko, Gillies, Tkachuk, and Shinkaruk. All of them have high end potential and are close enough to reaching the NHL that it's more a question of when than if.

After that the next group are guys that have skill but have a question mark or two, like Andersson and his conditioning (if not for that he'd be in the top tier)

Lots of skill throughout the list though. Scary thing is that the guy that will go 15th or so on this list is still likely to be a good prospect instead of a filler guy.

Went with Jankowski. Liked what I saw and read last year, like what I'm reading now.

Gillies has NHL talent from what I've seen but the injury history bumps him.

Poirier I'm not at all confident in. Don't see him with the team for long.

Hickey would likely be my next pick, based only on what I've read here.

Good grouping, though personally I have to put Andersson despite the conditioning as well as Kulak in that group. While Hickey or Kylington (or Andersson or Fox) may possess more raw upside than him I see a very high chance at Kulak rounding into a very steady two-way middle pair D which is not a small ceiling in itself. A guy like Alec Martinez would have rounded out our top 4 into the best in the league last year and Kulak is in the same category.

Also been starting to envision AOM as a Hjalmarsson type since WJC but may be getting ahead of myself.

Until gillies proves that hes set back from the injury / surgery he is the top guy. If anything the surgery should prove to increase his stock. Dude played for years with the injury that to his admitance hindered him. Im beyond intrigued with what capabilites this kid has when back to full health.

Have a feeling that if it is not speculated he is injured at camp he has more supporters.

Gillies, tkachuck , janko , hickey will be my hit list

i like Gilles, but goalies are so hard to project to the NHL...

Kylington is a guy that definitely has the highest ceiling of the remaining skaters...the brodie comparisons are really exciting, but still need to check expectations on him...
