I believe it will still always be tied to his term in office. Plus he has always fully supported it.
I might be wrong as I usually am, but it is how I interpret it. I do not expect Obama Care to last either. Once the Republicans get back the white house, I believe it will be struck down. Too much big business, and money involved, and I believe they will cater to big health.

Scalia did kind of get this part right:

"Really? Who ever thought that intimacy and spirituality (whatever that means) were freedoms? And if intimacy is, one would think Freedom of Intimacy is abridged rather than expanded by marriage. Ask the nearest hippie. Expression, sure enough, is a freedom, but anyone in a long-lasting marriage will attest that that happy state constricts, rather than expands, what one can prudently say."

That's actually pretty funny though fairly irrelevant.

It only makes sense if you think freedom of expression only applies to noises leaving your mouth. Which, of course, is not the case. The pure act of wanting to marry your counterpart is the expression they want the freedom of doing.

I am very pleased about this decision.
This will go down as one of the moments of the decade in western history. Great result.

Don't want to Debbie Downer things here, but I hope this isn't a "Mission Accomplished" type moment for the LGBTQ movement and its allies. There's still a lot of work to be done, for instance in eliminating the violence and persecution of trans-individuals.

I would say that recent events relating to race relations should be enough evidence to prove to LGBTQ activists in the States that any declaration as to the success of their effort to achieve social equality is almost depressingly premature.

That's definitely the next battleground, and one that I suspect will make many people from our generation look like the clueless old-timers that we see the previous generation as when it comes to gay rights.

See the discussion and awful Caitlyn Jenner jokes if you want evidence of that.

It still blows me away that although it is now legal in the United States for same sex couples to marry it is still legal in many states to discriminate against them on the basis of sexual orientation. Legalizing gay marriage, while a big step, isn't the last hurdle for gay people to overcome.

I'm a day late, but welcome to the 21st century, America.
