YEAH! How dare we, the United States Supreme Court, question the wisdom and unfailing moral compass of the Aztecs? Holy Quetzalcoatl has decreed that marriage shall be between a man and a woman, and if it's good enough for the feathered serpent it's good enough for me!

Now, the virgins are almost here, where's my sacrificial dagger... knew I left it around here somewhere...

I feel like Canada missed out on the social media love because we did this ten years ago and I don't know if there was even a party to celebrate (unlike the Republic of Ireland and, I assume, the USA). Still, happy to see society changing towards more equality, regardless of where it is.

Then go read Scalia's dissent...Is there a precedent for everyone to write their own dissent? I thought it was usually one and one.

^Where in that quote does he talk about God? I've actually skimmed the dissenting opinions and it's not like they don't have SORT of a point (Thomas in particular). Basically because the US Constitution is so antiquated, this is all a bit of a stretch. It's the right decision; there will be debate over whether it was the correct decision.

Any judge can write an opinion. Usually if they concur in the result, one judge writes and another agrees with it so that the opinion has the strength of more than one voice supporting it.

And Huckabee is an idiot, he sounds like he's suggesting a rebellion against the United States judiciary. What a tool.

EDIT: Actually I just don't understand it; what is he suggesting that Congress and the President... do? "If accepted" by the legislative and executive, the decision will blah blah blah... how would they go about NOT accepting it?

I don't really care to be honest. That it would have been done even sooner would have been better.

May there be a day when things like this isn't even a thought, surprising or even news. Because everybody understands and accepts that we should all be equal when it comes to things like this.

Great decision. Honestly, it doesn't affect non-gays at all, but will make millions of other people happy. I don't see how anyone can be against that.

The fact that this trolls ultra-conservatives is just icing on the cake.

As president I will stand in the gap and join with all faith leaders to rebuild and restore the foundation of America life, marriage and religious liberty.

For some, this is akin to taking away their guns. Or closing Wal Marts in Texas.

Thank you Onion...

Shortly after turning in dissenting opinions in landmark federal rulings today that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and conferred full federal benefits to married same-sex couples, Supreme Court justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, John G. Roberts, and Samuel Alito reportedly realized today that they would someday be portrayed as villains in an Oscar-winning film about the fight for marriage equality. “Oh, God, the major social ramifications, the political intrigue, all the important people involved in the case—I’m going to be played by some sinister character actor in a drama with tons of award buzz, aren’t I?” said Scalia, joining his fellow dissenting justices in realizing they would be antagonists in a film potentially titled Defense Of Marriage and probably written by Tony Kushner. “I’m going to be portrayed as a closed-minded Neanderthal and the very symbol of backward thinking. And at the end of the movie, when my character realizes he’s on the wrong side of history, the audience will feel emotionally fulfilled because the hero attorney, probably played by George ####ing Clooney, will have won. Great.” While they added that they aren’t looking forward to being vilified on screen, Scalia, Roberts, Alito, and Thomas all agreed that the movie would probably be pretty good, and that they could see Paul Dano getting his first Academy Award nomination for his supporting role as a gay rights crusader

Walked over from work about 10 minutes before the decision. Definitely worth the stroll!

I suspect that I know what Obama is trying to say, but...

So when will the pedophiles, polygamists, and those who want to marry their siblings get the right to marry who they love?

The Supreme Court can no more repeal the laws of nature and nature's God on marriage than it can the laws of gravity.
