I can't believe the Sharks are willing to give him an extension. Did they watch him in the playoffs? He's trending downwards.........fast.

I'm kind of upset he might leave Vancouver. He's one of my least favourite players in the league and makes hating Vancouver that much more fun and intense.
The Canucks need to keep Bieksa, Burrows, Kassian, Hamhuis, Richardson, and Miller for the long run.

So trade Hamhuis and Bieksa? That would put Sbisa in their top pairings. What the heck is Benning trying to build in Vancouver?

San Jose is looking for someone to play behind Burns, Vlasic and Braun. They have Irwin and Mueller for their bottom pairing. Personally I think signing someone like Paul Martin or getting Christian Ehrhoff back is the better option for them.

Bieksa might not be as over the hill as he seemed in the playoffs. I think Sbisa is actually that bad that Bieksa lost any confidence in getting puck support from his partner. He should still be a solid #4 with a strong partner, like Oduya was for the hawks.
Of course, Sharks' blueline is pretty bad these days, so Bieksa's gonna be terrible for them, especially if he's paired with Burns who can't defend work anything. And if they extend him before trying him out, man that will be funny.

^There is definitely something to this; Sbisa is in the conversation for "Worst Defenseman in the NHL" in terms of guys who play a regular shift. Here's his HERO chart:
Anyone playing with that guy is going to struggle. Flames fans can rejoice that even if this trade goes through, Vancouver is still stuck with Sbisa.

I don't know, from what I saw they formed a symbiotic relationship of suck. They fed into each other's no goodness, creating one of the most laughable 3rd pairings in recent memory. It was actually impressive that the Canucks managed to have the season they did while having two defensemen like this on their roster for the whole season.

Matthew Sekeres @mattsekeres
Dreger tells us #Canucks looking for two 2nd round picks from #Sharks, w/ Bieksa extension perhaps as much as 4 years at $4.5M per.

Blake Price @BlakePriceTSN
As @DarrenDreger tells us, a snarl on the Canucks end of things are slowing the Bieksa trade down. SJ was thinking it was close to done
What are the Canucks doing? Benning and Linden should be tripping all over themselves to get this done.

They have hours left to close it down, might as well make sure there isn't another offer from elsewhere before they pull the trigger.

Watching tsn and appears that the stumbling block is the year of the pick. That's all the said and presume sj wants to give a 2016 pick instead of 2015. Don't know why Benning doesn't just do it and horse trade a 2016 pick for a pick this year, if that's what happened.

If the Sharks offered a 14th round pick in 2021 I'd take it. The guy must have close to negative trade value right now. If you find a team that will take him........get it done.

I hope he gets traded for SFA and stays in our division. That way him and Mitchell Ferkland can have regular chats about relevancy

According to a couple of different sources, three entities — Bieksa/Overhardt, the Canucks and the Sharks — were working on this for at least a week and probably longer. In fact, the player recently visited the San Jose area with his family to look at houses.

The Canucks are hurt the most, not getting what they hoped from a potential trade. Benning is a scout first and foremost. He badly wanted a second-rounder. When someone with his expertise desires that, it’s for good reason. (Funny how last year, he was praised for draft manoeuvres. Now, the fan base is all over him. Vancouver turns quickly.)
There’s still a lot of interest in Bieksa, with approximately 10 teams having shown some desire to acquire him.
