My guess is Gillies will sign next week after Adirondack season is over to avoid having to send back one of the regular recall or Ortio. Treliving probably just wants Gillies to hang around with the Flames during the playoff and only serves as emergency backup goaltender in case one of Hiller or Ortio goes down.

I'd leave Jankowski in college. He's still filling out and gaining confidence in the physical aspect of the game. His progression hasn't been that great so the slow and sure path would be the best.

I don't know where you get the bolded comment from. I would argue the opposite; his progression has been great, so keep him on the slow and sure path in the NCAA. He still has some room for improvement, especially in terms of sheer offensive output, but there's no denying he's come on leaps and bounds since he started in Providence.

Gillies, on the other hand, has nothing left the accomplish at that level. He's been rock solid since he was a freshman and may as well move on to the pro level.

Go through his posting history and search Jankowski's name.

Maybe it's just me being a Flames fan, but I don't remember as much NHL buzz about an NCAA goalie since Ryan Miller. Although Gillies hasn't won the Mike Richter Award (what's up with that), so maybe it is just me.

Conroy on 960:

Jon is ready (to go pro)
we will get his done
in middle of celebration right now
last year with Gaudreau had to do it right away, but there is time with Jon
look at Justin Schultz and always a concern these kids might go UFA, but with Jon is confident he won't go down this path

so quick, all around solid
anticipates and reads plays well
always on his knees but that is the way they are being taught now. doesn't matter anyways because he is so big he covers the net

in 2014 when Conroy was sent down to sign Gaudreau, saw Gillies at the Frozen Four in Boston to support some his friends playing (Gillies is good friends with Demko)
Jon told Conroy then that he was going to win the whole tournament this year.

funny story: Conroy was at the Frozen Four last year. Gaudreau's mom ran in to him. Knowing why he was there got teary eyed and walked away from him without saying anything.

Think they might wait until AHL season is over.

If they sign him to NHL roster now they have to send Ortio down.

If they wait to sign him they can place him on the roster and keep Ortio up as well.

Can't they sign him now for a contract for next year? Like how I understand Garnett Hathaway's contract works. Then they don't have to worry about sending Ortio down, and they can still have Gillies hang out with the team.

Well today they are doing a celebration at the college:

Quote:
Providence College will hold a celebration on Tuesday, April 14 at 4 p.m. in Schneider Arena to honor the men's hockey team capturing its first NCAA title. The Friar men's hockey team defeated Boston University, 4-3, on Saturday, April 11 to win the NCAA Championship at the TD Garden in Boston. The celebration will take place on the Providence College campus at Schneider Arena. Doors will open at 3 p.m. The event is free and all fans are invited to attend.

Providence College President Father Brian Shanley, O.P., Athletics Director Bob Driscoll, Head Coach Nate Leaman and senior captain Ross Mauermann will speak to fans during the celebration. All the players will be introduced during the celebration. Fans will be able to take pictures with the NCAA Trophy.
All fans attending the event will be given a color photo of the Friars. Fans also will be able to purchase 2015 Providence College Men's Hockey NCAA Championship merchandise at Schneider Arena during the event.

For Friars fans that can't attend the celebration, a free, live video stream will be available on Friars.com. For a direct link to the video stream, please CLICK HERE.
video stream is here: http://www.friars.com/collegesportslive/?media=494905

Maybe they want him eligible for the playoffs. Hiller gets hurt, you need a new backup. Ortio's just off an injury so it's not out of the question that the third goalie could play. Long shot, but it's proper planning

Well it would be nice if they signed him as part of the celebration, that could turn a lot of Friars fans into Flames fans if they wanted to follow him. Pretty excited for this kid.

Autograph signing after the celebration today. Any sign of Treliving with an ELC (or two, or three) in his hands?

Lol.

Treliving: Oh hey Jon, Mark, I'm a really big fan, could you sign this for me? HAHA Gotcha! (High Fives Conroy).

I watched the ceremony. Gillies was the only player not wearing a Friars' hat. Was expecting him to pull out a Flames hat as soon as it was done.

Honest question, not meant to detail the thread. How do you manage two young goalies that could conceivably be ready to take over number one duties around the same time? (Ortio/Gillies)

Let them duke it out like Ramo and Hiller did? Or go the conventional route and choose your favorite, then trade the other?

I remember making that joke last year with Conroy and Gaudreau!

NCAA seems to be paying off.

AHL plays a lot of back-to-back games including 3 in 3 nights on the weekends. This might change now with the new division but if its similar then them splitting games won't be an issue. Both need to play. You can send Gillies down to ECHL for a week too if Oreo gets on a hot streak.

Then again, it might just change and Ramo leaves and Oreo moves up. Maybe Ramo re-signs and Hiller is dealt. All to soon to think about right now.
