If anything it will at least mean more/better interviews and the possibility of these guys getting drafted a year or two later.

That all said, there are still the bunch of players just happy to be drafted and given a shot.

In this case, given the opportunity, would you rather join the Blue Jackets or your home town Wild?

Aaron Portzline @Aportzline
Told #CBJ prospect D Mike Reilly not likely to de-commit from Univ. of Minnesota until spring-quarter classes end May 8-9. If he files

Aaron Portzline @Aportzline
... de-commit paperwork on, say, May 10, #CBJ could have his rights until June 9 (30 days). If not signed by then, he's UFA.

Aaron Portzline @Aportzline
Also, told Reilly is still "greatly considering Columbus."

Chicago is one well built machine, even with Toews/Kane extensions kicking in next season they'll be a force.

After signing both Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane on a huge contract, they need as many cheap but good young players in order to stay competitive. I am sure they will lose some of their expensive players in order to stay in the salary cap. I think Patrick Sharp is the first one to go after this season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Crawford goes as well.

I think they have the worst cap situation in the league for next year.

Their current cap hits on Toews/Kane goes up by 8 million (6.5 --> 10.5)

If they ditch Crawford, that will save 5.2 million, plus Oduya/Rozival are UFA saving 5.5 million, which is they replace those guys with 1 million dollar young players that will be a total of 8.7 mil saved. That doesn't count if they move a guy like Bickell (4 mil) or Sharp (6.5)

If the bring in that Russian guy, McNeill, Johns and a guy like Reilly, they won't really skip much of a beat.

Maybe they'll be forced to trade Sharp to the Flames!

Who is going to take Crawford at 5.2 million? He's just an average goalie... unless the Hawks are adding I don't see you'd give up anything for him.

Edmonton needs a goalie and has a history of bad contracts....

Calling him average is selling him short IMO. Any goaltender that can post a .924 SV% for over 50 games in a season is considerably better than average. Hawks would be foolish to part with him unless they have a suitable replacement.

Which they do in Raanta and Darling, both of whom have played nearly as good but only cost 1.5 mil between them next year.

The Hawks just collect free assets and then spin them off for more assets.

Its an embarrassment of riches.

It must be nice being a Hawk's fan.
