I would guess that the Marlies worried about this going to a shootout and Sparks has never been involved with one. He's only seen 2 games in the AHL this season so they probably replaced him with Gibson so that if it went to a shootout, they had the more experienced goalie in net.

Plus, Knight sort of blasted him on the penalty shot so they probably feared the same happening in the shootout as well.

What I saw of him play on Sunday and the 2 periods tonight, I agree completely. He didn't look like he was playing poorly at all.

Unless the 3rd period went completely down the drain on him, he probably should have played the entire game and been shown a little confidence by the Marlies.
