Frustrating result, but not a bad effort overall.
I thought we looked good in faceoffs, and was yet again on the edge of my seat almost everytime Gaudreau had the puck.
Pleasantly surprised at Bollig's game, I thought he was effective. I'd like to see McGrattan scratched for games when the other team's enforcer isn't playing / is injured.
I thought Engelland was decent, while Wideman was a trainwreck with and without the puck.
Hiller made some monster saves and couldn't be blamed for any of the goals against.

Now this is kind of a simplistic observation, I'll admit that, but it really seemed like it was either little guys on the ice, or tough guys. There didn't seem to be an in-between.
The littlest guy was great, and the toughest guy had some good shifts, but Glencross and Colbourne didn't warrant a lot of attention. They both did have a big hit or two, but just weren't noticeable (except for gaffes on Glencross's part).

Hiller should have had his stick on the ice for the first goal. Other than that he kept us in the game with key saves.

I thought Hiller was solid. Definitely one of, if not the best Flame.

I get that. It just seems when the puck is around him he never comes up unless he makes the save or the puck leaves the offensive zone.

Refs gift wrapped this one.
Since when do the teams' opinions affect the ref's decision? Total rubbish. And I don't care if that goal was good. The angles weren't conclusive enough to overrule the original call. If they called it a goal after the play, then it would stand through review. But it wasn't, and it was too sketchy to say for sure enough change the call (or so I thought...).
I can't wait till the Sedins are stuck in their own zone helplessly trying to chase down McDavid and Bennett. I'm ####ing sick of them dancing around like they own the ice.
Irritating losing to those twats, even if we're not expected to win.
On another note, Johnny B GOOD.

I liked Bollig's game tonight. Good jam -- was in the mix in a lot of the scrums after the whistle.
I want to like Raymond but very little happened once they hit the offensive zone.
Hiller was solid, not spectacular.
Gio/Brodie are just amazing on the back end.

We'll start scoring when Johnny is put next to Hudler and Monahan.
Only a matter of time......

Forgot to mention the power play was very subpar. A lot of trouble setting up in the offensive zone, hopefully they work on that a bit.

Johnny was the most dangerous person on the ice when he had the puck, and made something out of nothing more than once when he was chasing it down.
Glencross was really hard to get a handle on tonight, didnt really look like he was working overly hard, but he showed up at the right place, at the right time more than once in the offensive zone and just couldnt finish,\. He didnt have a bad game by any means, but doesnt seem like the kind of guy that will ever make the other players on his line better.
Wideman was bad.
Raymond just seemed to be there, not really doing anything positive or negative to make himself stand out.
Hiller looked fine, lucky canucks, what else can you say.

Interesting tweet from what appears to be Jay Feaster:
"@therealjfeaster: So many things I would like to say re: @NHLFlames loss tonight & no new contract for Hartley, but as Mom always said, if 0 nice 2 say, say 0"
Bitter?

Of the off season acquisitions I thought Hiller was stellar. Not much he could've done on any of those goals.
Engelland was steady eddy. Really liked what he did tonight over all.
Raymond was meh for me. It's clear he's going to need a little time to adjust and get to game speed.
Other than that, Hudler and Monahan are same old same old.
Gaudreau, you can see it, how long until he destroys this league? His timing needs work as well and the period of adjustment is debatable.
Colborne was a stud tonight IMO, again though, timing isn't up to snuff yet.
Wideman needs a confidence boost. I dont think he saw any PP time tonight.
Brodie looks like he's going to hit that next gear this year. This should be a memorable season for him, and it's going to make the Flames pay through the nose on his next contract.
Anywho, Vancouver was beatable tonight, not going to sweat this loss though. Now on to Edmonton.

I agree. When the Flames signed Dennis Wideman, we all know he is creative with the power play and defensive needs some work. Before the injuries, Wideman was playing lots of minutes, PP, PK and regular duty. He seems to be playing well with more minutes. After the injury, his minutes went down and his play went down. I am pretty sure it affects his confidence as well. Unfortunately, it looks like the coaching staff are losing their confidence as well. How can you answer a question, why was Wideman not on any PP tonight? Who's our point tonight? Russell-Giordano, and Brodie-??. I don't have any problem with those 3 I mentioned just to be clear.
