Hmm. ....and here I thought that I couldn't despise Ribiero any more than on I did. Guess I was wrong.

I dunno. relatively cash-sensitive organization just shelled out $12M to ditch a guy.

I would be too if it were our management team announcing them.

In fairness, effectively buying the 12th overall pick is pretty huge. I dont think its ever been done before.

So don't read...
Flames management wasn't proclaiming bold moves. Treviling didn't try to make you believe he had all these deals that didn't quite pan out.
Nothing to see here

A cash-strapped team may have deemed that the 12M in cash paid out would have been worth the 1st round pick?

Then don't read about them
Personally, I want to know what deals management was trying to make. I want to know what they value and how they are trying to improve the team.
It's not like they're pounding their own chest here, this is simply media reports of the deals that were attempted on draft day.

If that trade had happened (Ribiero and the 12th pick - maybe for a later pick or something), I would have:
a) thrown up in my mouth (at the thought of Ribiero being a Flame), then
b) saw the 12th pick and tried to calm myself and realize this is good, and then
c) stained my pants in excitement once I found out we were buying out Ribiero
Would have been an absolutely spectacular trade (even if it were for a 2nd)

Not a lot of players have had more ups and downs than Ribiero. From the famous dive, to getting run out of Montreal, to leading the Stars in scoring, to not being re-signed, to joining the Coyotes (which should've been a perfect fit for him...), and now bought out. Wow. Almost feel bad for the guy.

Never been a fan of his face and I'm glad to see him gone. Sick and tired of him always putting up points against us.

Brad worked heavily on pro-scouting under Don Maloney. Maybe he was the highest on Ribs.
Such a strange scenario.

Calling the Coyotes a relatively cash-sensitive organization is like saying Lindsay Lohan has relatively poor behavior.

Paying $12 million in cash for the 12th overall pick in a weak draft seems like a pretty steep price to pay.
With Ribeiro being unwilling to waive, you have to wonder if the Flames would have actually kept him , so he preferred being bought out and choosing his destination.
Otherwise, refusing to waive so that the Yotes can save some money is a dick move, and it's no wonder Maloney was willing to throw him under the bus.

Sure they didn't materialize, but if we had picked up #7 and #12 as has been suggested (likely at the price of our 2nds or even better, 3rds).. DAMN.
Treleving would have been a hero, and anybody who questioned the intentions/commitment of ownership for the next 5 years would be shamed into oblivion. Weak draft whatever, there was some serious talent available with those picks.
Hopefully Brad can work some magic in the coming weeks, prospects with some development time under their belts is even better than picks imo.

Agree on all counts, except steep price to pay. If you can buy that pick, the cost is cheap.
Treviling would know Ribeiro, so should be well aware of whatever the 'issues' were, and I'm pretty sure wouldn't bring them to the Flames if it was a concern

Please go to the KHL or Eastern Division Ribeiro..
I don't understand why he constantly loves to score goals against the Flames, but you can bet he celebrates Joe Thornton style after every game.

I would prefer to never see Ribeiro in the NHL again. It would be awesome for some Russian oil-baron to offer him $10M x 15 then never pay him a dime.
Sour grapes!
