Sven's value around the NHL isn't nearly as high as it appears a lot of Flames fans believe it is.

Semin and #7 for Hudler, Sven and 34?

With bothe the panthers and islanders wanting to win next year, they're going to want actual help now. Hudler, wideman, backlund, Glencross, Smid, stajan and most of our team should be on the table for their picks.

What if we package our 2nds for a later 1st, and then offer that up with one of Sven/Backlund/Hudler to move top 10 (preferably #5)
Add Wideman in there 50% salary reduced if required. I think he's been made expendable.

There is no way they trade JG for a 5-10 pick.
He has already proven more than anyone in the top 4 at the 'junior' level and he has shown at the WC he can play and succeed against men. Do not doubt Johnny Hockey!!!!!! I WILLL END YOU.

And/ or Ward.
Hudler, or Glencross or any forward for that matter. Brodie?
Prospect maybe not even as steep as Sven..depends on how desperate Carolina is, and other offers of course.
No one outside of Monahan,Gio and JG are untouchable.

JG isn't going to be traded. In the OP it says we are having a hard time trading for a top ten pick, meaning we don't have as good of assets to trade up to the top 10. Trading JG would have easily given you one and more.

If NYI offered up the 5th overall for JG, Treliving absolutely pulls the trigger on that.
It'd be a sad day, considering all we've invested in JG and the excitement surrounding him, but I have no doubt that Burke/Treliving/Conroy do that trade.

Speculation of attitude issues... FWIW.

Would it be wiser to trade for Ritchie once he's drafted?

Yeah, I'd say his value is a bit lower today than expected for his draft position (because of injuries). Which puts him in the J.T. Miller, Joel Armia range. A decent asset, but nothing elite about him.

I'd take Gaudreau over Ritchie, Ehlers or Dal Colle any day. He has proven more than they all have.
I really can't see that happening.

I see Widemans name come up a lot but he has a NMC and why would he want go to the Islanders? I'm not sure he would consent to this.

They're closer/most deadset on being a playoff team than we are. Plus they get their fancy new arena.

IMO the three players the Flames picked in the first round of last season's draft are more valuable to the Flames going forward.
