Yeah, there was 2 of them.

Also the Calgary Police on their motorbikes were pretty cool too, they had a good presence there overall which is understandable given how many people were downtown.

I must say I was expecting a little more presence from the Flames, they had a float with all their teams which was okay and the Stampeder cheerleaders which kinda saved the whole thing in my view, it was just okay.

Otherwise it was a good parade, could have had a few more marching bands. I liked the military tanks, troops and marching band as well as the RCMP.

My favorite thing was probably the Native Warrior, may have been from the Siksika band.
Yeah he was there. Near the beginning. On a horse.

Was he before or after the car carrying the parade marshal Shatner?

Shouldn't the parade marshal be in his own vehicle or on his own horse so that people can see who he is?

Sure they had a sign on the car but you barely recognized him from where I was standing.

And those Zombies in the pre-parade, they could have stayed home, not sure what that has to do with Stampede.

I have to say, I was a bit unimpressed with how few councillors were in the parade - unless some of them were on horses? I only saw 6 in the cars.

I'm one of those crazy ones who gets up early to score good seats, and every year, I witness people wandering down the street at 9am, trying to push their way into a curb seat. Pisses me off but rarely do they succeed, which makes me grin internally. My 2 1/2 year old was amazing - she sat in her seat or on one of our laps the whole time, no squirming or whining.

I just took a look at the various stampede breakfast schedules in case the family feels like visiting one or two this weekend and I was disappointed to find out that the community (Varsity) that we moved into in December does not put on a breakfast. The community has ~12,000 residents and a fairly decent community center and I assumed the community organization was pretty good but I'm a little put off that they don't throw a stampede breakfast.

We moved from Marda Loop which is obviously a big change because Marda Loop is a much more vibrant and active community.

I'm going to have to work extra hard over the next couple of years to make some extra coin and hopefully move back to the Marda Loop area in the medium term.

I'm also not just thinking this year, but going forward if 8:00am serving times during Stampede becoming the standard.

And yet somehow, there are civilized countries around the world that have no liquor curfews at all. Vending machines that sell beer and cigarettes 24/7. I'm sure you think there are 10 years olds running amok at 5am, smoking and drinking, but amazingly, that's not the case.

But just to be safe, we better make some laws.

And lets be sure to outlaw selling alcohol (WINE) on Christmas.

What year is it again?

I'd actually have no problem with the complete eliminate of liquor "curfews" across the board year round. Likewise we could relax the open liquor laws so folks can enjoy a beer in the park and not worry about a ticket.

I'm just questioning the logic of opening the doors for more debauchery specifically during the Stampede, when many in this city seem to do their only partying of the year.

But yeah, children, jebus, etc.

it's a large influx of tourists from out of town and country that come here to drink and have fun, what is there to get.

Nothing at all I suppose.

I withdraw my comment.

I wish open liquor laws were far less restrictive here. It would be great to get together with family and friends in a park, have a bbq, throw a football or kick a soccer ball and have a beer or two. I remember travelling in Europe with my family and visiting zoos, parks and other exhibits and being able to grab a beer from a nearby vendor and relax.

North American society is too oppressive and is getting worse as the years go by.

We're on the same page. I assumed too much from your other post.

i'm really excited this year. I'm bringing my wife and kids into town for the Stampede. The kids are of the age where they will be pretty pumped for the day at the grounds, notwithstanding the long walks and inevitable meltdowns from being too tired.

Where can a person find the schedule for where breakfasts around the city are? I really want them to see how much the entire city gets into the Stampede and that it is 100% better than Klondike Days (or whatever they call it now).

I believe this is the most comprehensive list of breakfasts:

does anyone still do stampede bbq lunches or burgers at end of day?

I can't believe it's close to 10 years since I really tied one on at Stampede.

I just saw a flier at the office for a lunch BBQ at Oil City Press next Wed. It's close to deer foot meadows.

Mark's usually has one in the evening, at each store on different days. Or they did last year when I worked there.
