I'd feel pretty stiffed if I was Elliot Friedman

I like Stombo though, look forward to his inclusion.

I can't speak for everyone but my dislike for Stock has little to do with the person and more to do with quality of his work.

The guy can't even put a sentence together half the time.

Great hire I'm a big fan of Strombo as well, love his interview style, he does great research.

They just mentioned on the Fan that Strombo actually started his broadcasting career as a sports reporter on the Fan 590.

I think Friedman's career trajectory isn't Ron MacLean, it's Bob McKenzie. It would be a shame to have him just as a host when as an Insider he's got so many great connections.

Dislike. I've never liked him. He irritates me, but I guess we'll see.

On Monday Rogers unveiled its broadcasting “dream team” that will anchor national NHL coverage across all Rogers properties. The team will be led by George Stroumboulopoulos, the new host of Hockey Night in Canada.

Don Cherry, Ron MacLean, Daren Millard and Jeff Marek will also be cornerstones of Rogers’ NHL coverage of 500 regular-season games, starting this fall.

Two of these things are not like the others.

Also, from the article...

Quote:
MacLean will host Coach’s Corner on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights, and will be front and centre on Sunday nights, the new night for hockey in Canada, hosting Hometown Hockey community celebration. Millard will host Wednesday Night Hockey on Sportsnet, starting this fall, and will continue to host Hockey Central @ Noon as well as Toronto Maple Leafs regional hockey on Sportsnet. Marek will host Thursday Night Hockey on Sportsnet 360, in addition to the weekend afternoon NHL pre-game shows on Sportsnet, starting this fall.

That's actually not a bad group, much better than I was expecting. I don't mind Marek and Millard at all.

Agreed, between say Game of Thrones and the 3rd or 4th Flames game that week - guess which one I am going to choose.

Zero say is absolutely true, it's spelled out right there in the passage you quoted: “Starting next year, Rogers will assume all editorial control (all editorial decisions with respect to the content, on-air talent and the creative direction of HNIC – we have the right to be consulted and there is a commitment to excellence) under the new agreement.”

Not could, do. Also, this agreement sees Strombo's CBC show cease production, as will his status as a CBC employee.

If it's beside the point, why did you make the original point?

This decision has absolutely nothing to do with the CBC.

Great hire imo. By all accounts Strombo is a highly respected, nationally recognized face and media personality with an extensive history of interviews spanning a broad selection of people.

Rogers didn't spend billions of dollars just to stick with the old guard.

Stroumboulopoulos....like to see Ron make a pun out of that name.

Agree.

Strombo, Maclean, Millard, and Marek are all good choices for host.

I actually like that they have a different host for each night. Will give each broadcast it's own feel and may provide a little variety.

Honestly can get a little tired of Duthie and Co. after watching them over and over again every night.

I really like Marek from his radio days on HNiC radio on Sirius
