As someone who isn't looking forward to him being the host I did say that I hope he can be better in this role than he is on his current show. So I guess complaining but allowing for the chance that he could do a decent job in a different role from what he currently does.
Now before everyone jumps on moon, it should be noted that the bolded is the closest moon has ever come to praising an individual. We're just lucky he didn't call him "garbage", his usual go to degradation insult, lol.

I don't know, maybe that was just a bad interview for him, but he's quite literally the opposite of everything you mentioned.
He takes after Larry King (he's explained how Larry's a huge influence on him) and likes to let the guest do most of the talking in interviews.
He does tons of research, is a huge Habs fan and very knowledgeable hockey fan, and a great interviewer.
Great hire, and I'm excited to see him on HNIC.
Maybe, I didn't think he was that bad either, before the interview. I was actually looking forward to it. I remember him being better, but the last while I havn't been impressed.
I do like Ron's approach but certain aspects have become stale (as have lots of other aspects of the production aside from just him). My biggest pet peeve with Ron is that he seems to think that dozens of references to Jim Cuddy and Blue Rodeo every season isn't excessive.
It's time for Cherry to go too. He's undoubtedly a Canadian icon and it will be a sad day when he is gone, but it's long since been time to ride off into the sunset. The content isn't relevant, the suits aren't funny or even novel anymore, and the only good part about it is you sometimes get a good pun from Ron at the end. Not sure who you replace him with though, or if you even try to continue Coach's Corner.
MacLean will remain high on the Olympic hosts. I am glad that his role will be a secondary one next season. He has had an amazing run on HNIC since Dave Hodge was wrongly fired.
It would not surprise me if Don Cherry stays. Scott Moore has always liked him.

The phasing out of Cherry would be awesome if I didn't know it was going to be followed by the phasing in of Nick ####ing Kypreos. It's like removing a pain in your left testicle and replacing it with an even worse pain in your right one.

Well this is CBC after all, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they just chose the most popular guy on their network, rather than doing a proper search to find the right guy for the role.
Says the guy who didn't do the proper research to realize this is not CBC, it is Rogers that will employ the people for the broadcasts

Yes thanks I am readily aware of that. But it's still a CBC broadcast, and they chose someone who's been working for CBC for years, not someone from Sportnet or a different network. Surely CBC had a large say in who was going to be the host a show running on their network.

They have zero say in the HNIC broadcast, it's a Rogers production from now on. It will be shown on CBC but HNIC is Rogers.
Yes, he's been working at CBC for a while but Roger's is his new employer for this.

I think Strombo is great, he has a great reputation and is well respected.
Though a few years back he interviewed Harrison Ford. To finish the interview he touched on Ford being a pilot. His last question was: "Are you better at takeoffs or landings?"

Zero say is not necessarily true, as CBC is still allowed to consult on certain matters.
Quote:
CBC President and CEO Hubert Lacroix acknowledged that the next season of Hockey Night in Canada will be very different.
“Starting next year, Rogers will assume all editorial control (all editorial decisions with respect to the content, on-air talent and the creative direction of HNIC – we have the right to be consulted and there is a commitment to excellence) under the new agreement,” he wrote to CBC staff in an internal memo.
“While this deal will result in job losses, the staffing impact would have been much greater had we lost hockey entirely, as CBC is still producing hockey. Preserving HNIC also allows CBC to maintain a capacity to execute a sports strategy and fulfil lits existing contractual obligations (i.e. Olympics, Pan-Am, FIFA),” he continued.
So obviously Rogers could have had the final say, but CBC will be able to benefit by being able to promote Strombo's show on their network.
It's besides the point anyway, as even if it's Rogers controlling the selection process that's even worse. At least CBC has a few competent personalities on their network, meanwhile Sportsnet has next to none. I find Bob McCown to be the only person on their entire network that I actually enjoy watching, and that's only because he was such strong opinions on many subjects and usually has the insight to back it up (see his arguments on Pete Rose). I can't say the same for their hockey broadcasts though where the majority of their personalities range from mediocre to downright terrible. So if the same people who chose Sportnet's people are responsible in choosing future broadcasters/analysts were probably no better off.
