If their goaltending was god awful for most of the year, they'd be decent.
Its still embarrassing to be playoff team last year and allegedly a team on the rise and be close to the Flames.

Bad team goes on hot streak, people overrate and think they've turned the corner. News at 11.
Who knows if/when the Islanders get things going but I wouldn't be fawning over how they're doing it just yet.

Take deep breaths... everyone knew this season was going to be bad, next season is going to be more of the same. There is no point in getting riled up and screaming for heads to roll after every bad game. Hartley is here for the next little while to get us through the down swing. No point in bringing in new coach until he will be in a position to possibly succeed.
|
Sorry, but what are you talking about? Who said fire anyone or what ever else you're going on about?
Some guy said Hartley deserves credit, when asked why Bubbsy said because the Sabres are a worse team. The Sabres being an absolute joke of a team have nothing to do with the Flames. Hartley shouldn't get brownie points because the Sabres are terrible, like worst team in over a decade terrible, it has nothing to do with the Flames or the coaching staff at all.
The Flames are rebuilding, they'll struggle, we all knew this, but the Sabres being worse doesn't mean anyone on the Flames deserves credit for anything.

So to get get back to my original point, do you disagree that the Islanders are a lot more talented and younger team than Calgary?

What people are saying is it doesn't matter because they still blow.

One thing to be rebuilding, but it's the way we're losing. Had to turn the game off, too painful to watch.
Can be entertaining hockey, if we crashing and banging, might be more interesting to watch - can't beat them on the scoreboard, beat them in the alley. But we have middling vets who aren't leading right now and appear to be mailing it in.
Something, anything would be welcome at this point. Put Galiardi on waivers and assign him to Abby if he clears and call up Granlund. We tried it, didn't work, move on. But get someone out there with something to prove instead of a vet who hasn't performed as expected and doesn't appear to fit in.

Figuring it out by making the playoffs last year and likely missing this year?

I came into this thread to see a moonwalking Shetland pony, I am leaving disappointed. There were grave mistakes but they weren't made by me.

NYI average age - 27.158
CGY average age - 27.192
The Islanders are younger then the Flames, by about two weeks?
The Islanders have John Tavares, an amazing piece but in terms of young players beyond him it's a whole lot of yawn. If the Flames pull the trigger on some dead weight vets at the trade deadline you'll see the Flames average age (12th in the NHL) drop quite a bit. Hopefully the Flames can stay below the Islanders this season and draft another highly skilled player.
I don't give credit for teams figuring it out and getting better until they actually do.

Fair enough...how about we compare the age and talent of the top 4 D and top 6 Forwards?
Those are usually the players who decide future contenders. Right?

Maybe they could try making Hartley a healthy scratch. There was a glimmer of hope earlier on, its hard to even watch a full game now.

Sure, run the numbers then.

Absolutely, especially if you have more then one impressive guy in that age range which besides Tavares I'm not sure the Islanders do.

Hartley is coaching the team right to expectations. Nothing better. Nothing worse. No point in firing him now as that will be sorted out in the offseason.
