Craig conroy. Love that guy. Don't care if he has the experience or not... I would go through a wall for a GM like conroy if I was a player.
Screw it... Make him GM and coach too. He has to be the most likeable guy in the game. Lol

@FriedgeHNIC is suggesting Jim Benning of Bruins is a man to watch in #Flames hunt for new GM. Second time I've heard that today.
Roger Millions @RogMillions 16s
Benning 7 years as Asst GM I'm Boston. Lots of good things from Beantown.

I believe in the Jays.

Kisio seems like a great choice. Is there something obvious I'm missing as to why he hasn't had a chance to be a GM at the NHL level yet?

I don't know if I'm remembering right but I think I heard an interview about 5 years ago on the Fan with Kisio asking him about that, and at the time he said he hadn't had a desire to go to the NHL, that being with the Hitmen is what he wanted to do. Now that he's given up his position with the Hitmen, saying it had become tiresome, maybe his mindset of staying in the WHL is changing, and he would welcome the challenge of an NHL position.

I will literally cry if Nieuwendyk becomes the GM. His trades in Dallas were mknd bottling.

I really hope Kisio gets considered. Though he would be a bit inexperienced (Burke will help him out), he seems to have a solid mind for the game. Another huge plus would be the fact that his eyes have been on the WHL intensely, so he will be very familiar with a great many prospects and young players that graduated from the WHL itself (not just the Hitmen). Really a great angle there that could potentially help this organization.
Can't believe nobody has mentioned Loob yet - not that I think it would happen.
There are lots of great candidates. Jim Nill would have been really nice, but there are a multitude of great candidates out there. There might even be more potential good GMs out there than potential good coaches. I just hope it is an EXHAUSTIVE search filled with EXHAUSTIVE interviews.

Someone from those spots could poach additional management talent to fill the Ass't GM role, scouting role(s) and would have deeper insite into that organization's talent pool.

So, you're thinking it'll be Weisbrod? I hear he's available...

I think all the hate for Nieuwendyk is unfounded.
His Lehtonen trade was a robbery. Probably came out on the short end of the Neal trade, but people blow that out of proportion... He's a solid 25 goal forward but his 40 goal year was basically Rob Brown 2.0.
Nieuwendyk is bright, has ties to the franchise and burke and has a long career and opportunities to learn from his mistakes and be mentored in cowtown.
Not my first choice but still a good one.

Agreed.... my first impressions changed when you actually look at his body of work, in the end its actually not so bad.
Would still perfer Mike Futa though.

Oooooh now THAT gets me intrigued. And completely new thinking.... How would that fit in the template that Burke described in what he was looking for? (Ex. Scouting knowledge, ect.)

And Burke said today that the nice thing about the structure of the Flames, with him overseeing the GM, is they could hire someone who maybe isn't that experienced and he wouldn't be able to do something stupid. So Niewendyk wouldn't be making any panic trades or lopsided deals with Burke looking over his shoulder.

I don't know who the Flames will hire. Maybe Benning. Maybe Niewendyk. Maybe Futa, or Fenton.
I'm just happy that the GM won't be hand-picked by Ken King, and will be selected after a proper vetting of several qualified candidates.

I just don't want Nieuwendyk. Just reeks of Oiler-esque pandering to the fans.
Not to mention that he didn't make a single good move working for Dallas.

Ken King needs to be held accountable for picking Feaster in the first place.
Guess he is in another role and ultimately is safe from making another dumb GM pick
