Sad news saw the photos of the wreck on Sat night, my sons didn't believe us and were convinced it was some kind of hoax when i txt them the bad news. Really tragic nothing can be said but my heart goes out to his family. Way, way to soon for a such a talented actor.
A lot less sympathy for them now if the drag racing rumors are true. Racing on public streets in the middle of the day is about as bad as driving drunk. At least they didn't take any innocent bystanders with them.
As a volunteer firefighter, I have rarely seen people live in these types of accidents, but it does happen if someone can be rescued and flown to a burn center for immediate treatment. What is really troubling about this video is the fact you can see a figure through the flames trying to get out of the vehicle which one may assume is Paul Walker. There are essentially two types of people in this scenario that are almost completely controlled by one's natural instinct: A. Automatically run over to the car and assist (even if it means sustaining burns to your own body). B. Automatically go into shock and are unable to face what is happening . You cannot pass judgement on another human being in this type of scenario, until you have faced this type of trauma yourself. However, if you are not able to assist, STOP VIDEO'ing and CALL 911 immediately or flag someone down who can help. Such a tragedy. Blessings to his Family and Friends.

Saw at work yesterday in the elevator that the police had issued a statement saying they didn't believe drag racing was involved.

Paul Walker's dad urged his son to 'give up his daredevil ways'
Quote:
“I sat there, I looked at him and I said, ‘You know, I love you very much… If anything was to happen to anybody in this family, it would be a rough deal,’” the actor’s dad, Paul Walker Sr., told E! in a heart-wrenching interview.
“I said, ‘Promise me, no more daredevil stuff.’ I said, ‘If in your heart, you say, I can do this, then by all means, do it. If your mind says, maybe not. Then don’t.’ I looked at him, I said, ‘Will you promise me that?’” he said.

The handsome “Fast & Furious” star –who died in a fiery crash on Nov. 30 — swore to his father he’d be more safe, Walker Sr. said.
But the worried dad continued to drive home the point.
“I said, ‘You know, promises are a very important thing here, Paul,” Walker Sr. said.
“I said, ‘Say OK,’ and he said, ‘OK.’ You know a lot of us, sometimes we make promises and get caught up in the moment and stuff like that, but I can tell I got to him. I can tell that I was very serious. Sometimes sons think of their fathers and their grandfathers as these bigger than life people.”
No drugs or alcohol, but the Coroner's report indicates the car was traveling more than 100mph (160kph) when it crashed.
I don't care how nice of a guy he was, going that fast on public roads (and one that wasnt even a highway) is pretty reckless and dangerous for not only themselves, but everyone around them.
its interesting to me; I imagine that if Walker was drunk driving and ran over someone he would be publicly reviled.
Or perhaps if he just just sober ran over someones kids at 160 KM.
He died in a car going an insane speed knowing full well he was endangering himself and others. My sympathy meter is pretty much unmoved. Sorry to those who will take offence.
edit: Passenger or not. I'm sure Walker had no problems with what was going on or he would have told his friend to stop.

To be fair, you have no way of knowing that Walker wasn't telling the driver to slow down.

And there was a report that people heard the engine rev up right before the crash. Maybe driver accidently hit the gas instead of the brake and was at a more 'leisurely' speed before they lost control?
I read an article/statement about that movement that said the movement in the vehicle was probably not anyone attempting to get out, that he was most likely dead almost immediately. The movement may have just been caused by the intensity of the fire/heat to the body. Damned if I can find it again.

According to the documents obtained by TMZ, Walker died from "combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries." The report went on to say that the Porsche he and Roger Rodas crashed in was going approximately 100 mph.
No traces of alcohol or drugs were found in either body.
Walker had "multiple fractures throughout his body, including his jaw, collarbone and left upper arm."
The report added that Walker's body was laying in a "pugilistic stance," as if he was bracing for impact.
There was also "scant soot in Walker's trachea," which suggests that he may have taken a breath after the crash.

Apparently, O'Connor will retire and not be killed off of the action-packed franchise.
In the history of ever has anyone ever accidentally sped their car up to 160 km/hour?
No, I'm saying from 100 to 160. I've never driven a car like this, but I'm guessing it has a better high end acceleration than most. Maybe I'm just fixated on that report of the engine rev before the crash.

I don't understand driving a car at 160 km/h in this particular area of California is completely unsafe. Not only for the occupants of the vehicle but for any pedestrians in the area. Brannigan has a point that should be acknowledged. Putting others at risk at your expense is the same as drinking and driving and he was responsible for being in the situation.
Walker may have objected but was not in control of the vehicle. The vehicle has been reported difficult to control. The answer is these types of vehicles at these speeds do not belong on public streets but race tracks.
