At this point every game is going to come down to bounces and a bit of luck. Offensively Calgary is a good team, and will probably end up in the top 10 of the league IF they play with the energy they've been playing with so far, which isn't out of the realm of possibility. Defensively? Well, the defence isn't BAD, but it's also not very strong. Goaltending is basically what is going to decide whether we win or lose most of the games this season, if Joey Mac has a good game, we've got a legitimate shot to beat the Nucks, if he lets in 4, then it's highly unlikely.
I'll talk crazy and say 6-1 Flames, BECAUSE WHY NOT?

Hahaha what? Please clarify. You don't mean top 10 in the league in terms of standings, right? You mean in terms of scoring? That's still a pretty massive stretch but at least it's not double-take worthy ridiculous.

Good Luck to you Flames fans this fine Sunday.

Not surprising. Flames are so different that it's hard to figure how good they actually are with so many young guys. Very interesting team. I am glad the Flames kept my three favs on the squad (Glencross, Giordano and Brodie) and jetisoned most everything else.
I agree with other posters that it's hard to figure out the Canucks yet as well. Coaching has changed the way they play quite a bit so far. The Sharks are so dominant at home and the Oilers are so brutal missing Gagne and RNH that there hasn't been a close one yet. I think this will be a close game... 4 - 3 flip a coin on who wins.

It was overreaching a bit but I think what he meant is, and this is supported by some of the media comments lately, the Flames are back to that sort of grinding, hard working style that they were known for before the last couple years. Top 10 in scoring or whatever is obviously extremely ambitious but I think people expecting the Flames to finish last or lower than last year might be disappointed. It could happen, but breaking up the "old boys club" might be the best thing for this team in a long time. They might actually be able to buy into some kind of effective system of play now.

First game of the season I get to watch. Don't care about the score, as long as the boys put up a fight!
5-3 Canucks.

Going to the game tonight, not really sure what to expect. Probably the canucks win but who knows. I didn't see much of the Columbus game but Stempniak looks like he's playing like he did last season.

No issues with this, I already have a bet going that the Flames finish ahead of the Oilers. I even got 2-1 on it.

There is no way we are near as bad as the oilers were last night, The bigger faster and more resilient Flames should surprise. I think losing has become a disease in Edmonton, too many players have bought into the losing mentality. It's going to take a major overhaul for the oilers to remedy the problem. I say the Canucks will be in for a surprise this is not the same group the sedins used to skate around. If the Canucks get into any trouble I have no doubt they will start resorting to a few dives, they always do.
Flames win in overtime

Blame the rookie or blame the veteran. What's the difference?

Any rookie forwards looking for their first goal?

Or for that matter any sappy story player who has a 2-3 season goalless streak, or a player about to hit a major milestone?

Have Sven and Monohan been playing with Stempniak a lot this season? Sounds like an exciting line.
