Friends is bland for sure, but there are truly funny moments and it's because of the writing and the performances. It's not the most interesting show, but at least it's genuinely entertaining.
How I met your mother almost falls into the bland category for me, but I love the premise...it just should have ended 2 seasons ago. Pretty terrible now.
But how can anyone be upset at a show that gave us Robin Sparkles and The Slap Bet?

I wish there was a version of Seinfeld without the laugh track. It's the only thing that I hate about the show; really surprised Larry David went for that (unless NBC forced it on him).
The Big Bang Theory has gone way down hill. The first two seasons (before most people caught on to it) were by far and away the best. Mostly because they consistently wrote Sheldon's character as a cold, hard ###hole with zero understanding of human behavior, which in turn made his scenes hysterical, (especially with an extra bimboey Penny early on). Season 3 on, he was too warm to the other characters, plus the introduction of new ones just turned it into some happy ol' nerd family fun hour, that was not funny. The best humor occurred when Sheldon was completely condescending, and had no clue about it.

I'm sure all-time I've seen worse. But in recent memory, Bachelorette. What a bunch of attention-whooring filth. I hated every person on that show.
I don't really watch any of that type of stuff though, I'm sure if I ever watched Jersey Shore, Real Housewives, etc, I'd think it was even worse. I just don't get how those shows are popular.

Agreed that a laugh track is extremely corny, but I think you're looking at it with too much of a 21st century, modern comedy lens. That's just the way all sitcoms were back then, I doubt it was even up for discussion when they started in 1989.
Think of any of the all-time comedies, and if they're from before the 2000's, pretty much guaranteed they all have laugh tracks/live audiences. I'm with ya that I'm glad they've pretty much disappeared though (minus the big network, vanilla sitcoms, Big Bang Theory, Two And a Half Men, etc)

The creators of M.A.S.H. were pretty insistent that the show be broadcast without a laugh track. They lost the battle with CBS executives, but managed to get a few concessions (there is no laugh track during operating room scenes, and a few episodes managed to get broadcast with no laugh track at all). It was a pioneer in that regard and I wish that more shows had caught on sooner
Good grief, this last season was practically un-watchable. The story was uninteresting and the writing has gotten ridiculously predictable. Every time any of the supporting characters came on the screen, I would just hit the fast forward button but it didn't even help all that much.
Even seeing Anna Paquin naked on the show has almost lost its appeal now that she is past the "naughty-looks young and not sure I should be doing this" time and has instead entered the "I had a kid and look way too skinny and toned like Kelly Ripa" stage in her life......for shame, for shame.
I cant stand How i met your Mother or BBT but 2 Broke Girls is a guilty pleasure of mine. The laugh track is definitely annoying and sure there are some eye rolling moments but I feel the premise of the show is solid with a classic fish out of water story. The two actresses are easy to look at plus when the characters really start ragging on each other, it can be some of the funniest one-liner put downs on TV.

Also agreed about laugh tracks. How I Met Your Mother would be infinitely better without it.
If you feel the need to prompt laughter, its probably not that funny in the first place.
To add a guilty pleasure show i have to go with this show i recently found out about called Cheaters. I'm pretty certain it's fake but man are the confrontations funny as hell. This one is just so crazy and ridiculous:

I don't think cheaters is fake. Joe Grecco got himself stabbed on a boat one time.
Also, Tag Yo Man, because it's Time for the Dance Three Six Oh
Edit: The Wiki article references several people who have claimed many of the episodes (including the Grecco stabbing) were staged. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheaters

two and a half men is up their for me - what a putrid show that just seems to be about feeding Charlie sheens ego. I produce classier things like clockwork every morning...
