The only reason I have trouble sleeping while my wife is away is because I don't have somebody there telling me to turn the lights off and go to sleep. Otherwise I end up staying awake, chain-watching "Pawn Stars" or some other stupid, yet addictive show.

Get the TV out of the bedroom. Get a Kindle. Read yourself to sleep.

Bumping this thread for a similar discussion here. My girlfriend just moved in yesterday and I've never been able to sleep well with her when we sleep in the same bed, and after having a bout of insomnia recently it's gotten much worse (ie. I don't fall asleep til 4 am unless I kick myself out of the bed or go to bed drunk). Most people I've talked to have said that you get used to having someone else in your bed on a regular basis after time.
How long did folks here take to get used to having another person in their bed? If anyone sleeps in separate beds, how long did you try sleeping in the same bed before you gave up?

Anyone ever tried 2 twin beds right up against each other? Single king sized linens over the 2 beds though.
I would think a very high quality mattress would have the same effect, but maybe not?

My wife has to wear earplugs when we sleep.
I've smoked for 17 years, and now am 9 months of being smoke free and it still hasn't done anything to help how loud I am.
I snore loud enough that my son wakes up if our door is not closed at night.
"apparently"
The wife is on the road about 10 nights/month. We both sleep way better when she's gone.
I think we just could be one of those couples who end up on different beds.
The jokes of "you should sleep on the couch" are getting increasingly more frequent...

Ikea has these 2 inch thin toppers for that situation to make the two twins seem like one unified king as well. worked really well for me anyways.

Anyone tried one of these anti-snoring mouthpieces? https://puresleep.com/s30/homepage.php
I've been told I snore on occasion, definitely more so when I sleep on my back or after a night of drinking.

If she's the one that has a great job that makes more money than me then yeah I'd get up but that isn't likely and saying that's sexist is rubbish, it's just reality, and we won't both be working so the one not working will be getting up in the middle of the night.

I always forget that most of you live in Canada where maternity/paternity leave is a thing that actually is afforded to you. Here in the US it's not that way--women don't get maternity leave, unless they're lucky enough to work for a company who offers it, and very few do. And honestly, raising a child on a single income is damn hard, if you expect it to be that easy for your wife to just stay home all day with the kid, I think you're in for a rude awakening once you actually get married and start planning a family.
As most families now, both parents work, and if you aren't helping your wife with the kid in the middle of the night, you might wake up to your belongings on the front lawn.
