He also makes some other errors though, like saying teams no longer have to make paper transactions on deadline day where players are loaned and immediately recalled to preserve post deadline loan eligibility. Just looking at the AHL transactions list there are dozens of players who were sent down and recalled all on April 3rd so it's pretty obvious that teams still need to do that.

He should have been recalled a week or so ago when we were out of the playoff race. The kid needs more exposure at the NHL level and being out of the playoffs is a perfect time to give him lots of ice time.

I hope he goes to World Championships. Might be the only chance at trying to salvage an otherwise terrible season. Also, he should be on that team if he wants to go to Sochi.

I would keep him as far away from this group of losers as possible. I'm talking about the Flames AND the Heat. Too bad Portland is no longer an option.

Just came here to post that. The kid wears his heart on his sleeve. Can't deny his passion.

Regardless of his potential or ceiling, I think we have a good one on our hands.

Down and dejected, the slick left winger phone his mom Daniela at home in Switzerland hoping to find an understanding ear.

“So what?” Daniela said, when her son broke the news.

“What do you mean?’” Baertschi snapped back. “Aren’t you mad or something?

“No,” she replied. “You’re 20 years old. What do you expect? You can’t just walk through everything.”

I love this part. That was the best advice she could give him.

It appeared that Baertschi's rookie season could be one for the ages so when he struggled early on in the year, it came as a bit of a shock to the system for the Flames 2011 first round draft pick.

"Maybe I felt too comfortable before," he conceded. "Maybe it was because I got the message early from the team that I would be here, maybe it was too easy. I didn't understand how hard you have to work for it.

"I'm a young guy, it's my first season and it's something I have to learn. But I'm really happy I've got great coaches around me and great teammates. They help me with everything."

"My compete level, it has to go up. Especially when you skate against guys are much heavier than you and much stronger than you. I've got my ways to do it and I'll try to win as many puck battles as I can. I think that (success) has to do with my competitiveness out there. I've got to make sure I'm not going to accept losing a puck battle."

His first game back with the Flames comes in Colorado, the site of his first and only point in the 2012-13 campaign, and he's thrilled he has the chance to show the coaching staff and the organization what he has learned this year.

"I think the most I learned was about myself. The last few years have been so great with everything. Nothing really went wrong expect for losing in the (WHL) finals. Now I'm in a different spot. Things didn't go that well.

"Everybody struggles at one point in his life. The question is what do you make out of it."

one memorable was a shift against Johnson and Landeskog. He was throwing his body around and was effective against them.
