I'm not saying Burke is perfect, hell, he might not even be the best candidate out there, but one thing that I am 100% positive on is that he would be a lot better than the buffoon that we have at the helm right now. At least with Burke, he gives you more than just worthless platitudes and endless BS.

Agreed! Really smart hockey guy who would have done wonders with this club. In fact you can see the effect he has had on Columbus already

He clashed with new ownership. If they kept him this year and they made the playoffs they would have had to re-sign him. Don't think they wanted to deal with his "brashness" for more years.

He would have been the best candidate out there a month ago. I agree with you flames should have got him in for the start of the rebuild. Would he annoy the owners? Sure but a couple of years of Burke would have been worth it.

Calling Feaster a buffoon says it all about your opinions. No reason for me to discuss this any further

No clue. Might have something to do with the way he interacted with his superiors, but I can only speculate. What I do know is that the on ice results were no reason for him to be let go. When you consider just how bad that team was when he took over, with all the terrible contracts that had to be bought out (Tucker, Rycroft, McCabe, Finger) a prospect pool that was worse than ours, and an aging core of veterans, what he has accomplished is pretty damn impressive.
He's loud, he's obnoxious and he comes off as a complete jackass, but let's not pretend that the man is not good at his job.

While a nice guy and yes a hockey guy, his drafts were nothing special, and he made the playoffs less then half the time he was in charge in St. L, winning one round.
Burke would be ideal...and with his ego and personality, the only way he would come here would be if he was the one in total charge. This would work though only if having outside input of the owners only on the most high level of decisions, not the mish mash of cooks in the kitchen such as the Feaster/King/owners trifecta as it is now and has been for a while, certainly since Darryl left and probably in the last few years of Darryl's tenure.
That's part of the reason he probably won't be here, those guys now don't want to give up that power...it would take a big step for the owners to agree to this, give up the control they've taken back, and, the whole procedure have to be done as an end around past King's powers.

Name one major move Feaster has made with the Flames, outside of drafting Sven, that hasn't resulted in backlash or had some kind of horrible twist to it. Seriously. Name one.
The man consistently finds himself in situations where he looks like a fool, drawing negative attention to both himself and the organization he represents. If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck...

No worries, you clearly didn't know what you were talking about to begin with so it's no big loss.

The drafting of Jankowski (adressing the centre ice needs), Seilof (toughness on defence) and Gilles for starters.

I don't think those qualify as major moves.

Excuse me? You call someone a buffoon and expect other posters to take you seriously in that you are looking at this objectively? Good luck with that.

With the flames rebuilding and not having a face for the franchise, Burke with his ego and personality could have taken on that role, while the young kids just concentrated on hockey.
Thats if the flames rebuild.

I don't know what planet you live on where drafting Jankowski wasn't met with widespread criticism.
People are still using Jankowski as a punchline, especially after Feaster came out and started running his mouth about being the most talented player in the draft.

That's drafting, and it really looks like he lets his AGM and scouts take care of that.

Those are good draft picks that address the needs of the Flames. Should we dismiss what he did there? He may not be the best GM around but that hardly classifies him as a buffoon.

I was defending him not trashing him.

I never said he was a buffoon but I also think he's made a few gaffes that an average NHL GM wouldn't make. The drafting may or may not turn out, who knows but certainly a number of trades and signings he's been behind are suspect.

I think the word "buffoon" sums up his body of work with this team perfectly. Surely if I used it to describe Lowe you would not object? Take Lowe's worst season as president/GM and compare it to this one for Feaster. I don't see much difference.
As for the Jankowski pick, the jury is still out on that one, but I don't see how you can argue that it addresses our needs. Even the most optimistic members here will tell you that Jankowski is 2-3 years away from being a full-time NHLer. For a GM that proclaimed our goal was to win now, getting a player that may play in 3 years does not address our needs any differently than what the 29 other GM's that re-stock their cupboards at the draft do.

Buffoon is a bit harsh. He's been average at best but he's not a buffoon by any means. The Cammy for Bourque trade was good, especially if Ramo comes over next year and can be a legit 1A/1B guy. Drafting Sven and Gaudreau were very good moves. Modin and PLL trades were nothing for nothing. Going to the KHL to look for some help was a good idea. In fact the way Cervenka has played the last few games, I wouldn't mind a new deal for him, at an appropriate price of course. His hands were completely tied with the Iggy situation. If he didn't trade him, you would've probably been upset that we didn't at least get "something" for him before he walked away a UFA. Admittedly, I don't get his and Weisbrod'd love affair with the NCAA, but I'll give him time to see how that plays out. Hudler was a good signing, Wideman was probably over priced but still a good pickup. Its hard to say how the ROR situation would've played out had it give through, but he had confirmation from Bill Daly, that it wouldn't have been a problem. I think some people like to be haters for the sake of being haters. He hasn't brought us a Stanley Cup in the 2 and a half years he's been here, well then he must be a horrible GM. He's no Ray Shero, but he's not worse than Tambellini or Garth Snow or Doug Maclean either.
