After playing a bit more last night I can safely say that I'll end up getting this game. I love the vertical nature of this map. It seems like I am constantly discovering new elevators and being fired on from different buildings.
Some cool things:
The first time I spawned into the central tower it immediately canted to the side as the building began to collapse. It gave me a very similar BC2 adrenalin rush as I raced to get out of the building.
Another time I had just swam ashore to the steps leading to the central tower when I heard this thunderous boom and debris fell off the tower in front of me. I tried to outrun the building collapse but was very unsuccessful.
Being able to jump off the central tower and parachute to pretty much any point in the map is a handy way to snag a control point.
The new spawn system is far better than BF3. You can spawn in any vehicle instead of having to fight for them. You can also spawn on any of your squadmates now instead of just the squad leader.
Things I am not sure I like:
Ammo for tanks? I think you get 4 rounds and after you've fired them you have to wait for them to slowly recharge. Not a fan.
Ammo packs don't restock explosives? I know this is the case with the M320 but I am not sure if it also doesn't restock RPGs, JAVs etc. I get why they'd do this and it's probably for the better. No more hallways of death with people just spamming M320s, RPGs and nades. I can see vehicles being more of a problem though if AT/AA rockets can't be restocked.
The grind. It's brutal. I hope the way it's currently implemented is simply for beta because it's going to take forever to level. I went 24-4 in one game, top of the team, and that didn't even give me half a level (I was level 0 for the record).

Ammo packs do restock explosives, but not until level 3 :< It won't be much of a problem past the first 2 weeks of release, then you just have to worry about getting chumps to drop ammo packs.

Cool. Not a problem with the folks I play with. I love that they expanded squad sizes to 5. I am also not sure how I feel about the squad perk system. I liked the BF3 system where it was just an individual perk you picked for your squad. I hope it does lead to increased squad play but we'll see.
Also, VOIP... It's about damn time!

Yeah VOIP for real. I hate running TeamSpeak just to play BF3.

I just read that the engineer is getting wire guided missiles back. Great news! I always loved these things for their ability to be used against air and ground targets.

AGREE completely. Not having counter measures off the start made it impossible for someone coming into the game to fly a heli or jet without getting murdered in seconds.

I think BF4 has a much higher level of replayability for me personally over BF3, which is great because I loved BF3, but I could never play it for more than an hour at a time.
And yeah plane scaling was ######ed. I got my heat seekers/flares in the first month of flying but it always seemed dumb for players who came in later to have to grind through with the vulcan cannon.

Tried it out tonight for a few minutes. My first impression was that the gameplay seemed almost like COD like. Granted I only played for about 15 minutes so it might not be the case at all.

I hated when they made the servers to metro 500% tickets. If you like COD then go play COD ######. I love the game after hating it at first.

Hardcore is really where the game is for me because I even found BF3 to be CoD like when playing on normal. The one thing I noticed is how much slower everything feels. When I first loaded up a game I had to crank my mouse sensitivity to 100%. You seem to move a lot more sluggish too.

I think BF3/4 will never really feel like CoD to me because of how much better the engine plays. Frostbite 1/2 just has a great feel to it, and is probably my favorite engine to shoot guys in outside of Source.
Everything in CoD always seems overscaled geometry wise with textures that are too small. BF3/4 is like using a regular TV remote, and CoD is like using a grampa remote with oversized luminous buttons that are 1"x1" square.

The Frostbite 1/2 engines have been a revelation. Just what they've managed to achieve with destruction has totally changed the way I approach any situation in shooters. Some guy is hiding in that room? Blow the effing wall up and now he's not.

And I can't even play, crashed out two times trying to get into a game (seemed to load everything, then just hung and eventually crashed when it tried to put me into the game), 3rd try I got into the game, ran around for 5 seconds with incredible lag and super slow framerate, then crashed again.
Gonna try the 331.40 beta drivers I guess.

A lot of people are complaining of the same problems you are having. I'm one of the lucky ones and everything seems to run fine for me. I sure hope they have everything fixed before release though.

I haven't encountered any crashing. Is your Direct X up to date? Unfortunately, it sounds like Dice submitted an old build of the game (pre-E3). I guess the only point of this "beta" is to test the servers.

Updating to the beta drivers and rebooting seems to have resolved things, I can play now.
Seems the same as all the other games like this recently, I can't see anyone in time to kill them before they kill me.
EDIT: Oh, and yay elevator deathtraps.

Best advice for BF newbies:
Stay with your squad. Spawn on your squad. Don't run unless you're running away. Stay against walls. Only cross open areas in groups or you're certain you're alone. Spot before you shoot. Play as a scout rather than infantry. Develop your eyes before your gun. Watch your map for enemy activity. Again, spot often (Q).

Watch those rooftops! There are so many buildings people can be on top of that you really have to pay attention vertically. We should gather a group of CPers and get some squads together.
