I would bet that giant BAUER logo on the front pays for the majority of it.

lol, NO. Everything is covered. CHL, CIS, NCAA, etc; players don't pay. However, I do recall hearing a while ago that the Maple Leafs of all teams have an allowance.

Initially I thought there was zero chance Kipper played the last year of his contract. Feeling 50/50 now ...... I think it really depends on his family. It is a given he returns to Finland when he is done, just depends how much longer he wants to keep his family here. I don't see him coming back after this contract.

I always find it funny when posters assume that, because another poster has only been posting on this board for a short period of time, that they must have just beemed down from space or just become a hockey fan.
It is entirely possible that, despite not being a CP poster since 2006, that I somehow managed to find other sources of information on the Flames.
To the point, yes, when Kiprusoff signed that contract in 08, it was pretty obvious to look forward to the final year of it and speculate that he could well retire instead of playing for $1.5M for the final year.
However, 5 years later, as that final year fast approaches, and since Kiprusoff is still playing well and keeps himself in great shape and - most importantly - since he has made no mention whatsoever of retiring, it is probably no longer as obvious or prudent to simply assume that he will hang up the skates instead of playing out the contract and probably desiring another one.

glad he was slightly more creative than just putting a team log on the crown of the mask.

A pro goalie's mask is usually custom molded to his head. Him getting a new mask quickly depends on how fast a new one can be made from his mold. Add in a paint job, and his painter has to make room for him in the schedule too. Guys like DaveArt do a lot of paint for pros, so sometimes it might take a guy like Joey MacDonald a little longer to get in.

Might just be the worst Flames mask I've seen thus far.

Not great, but better than Irvings. I think Taylor has the best mask out of the calgary goaltenders and i don't think its all that great.

"Get a new mask!"
"That's a terrible mask!"
I love this site.
Love the Cars addition. Better than most out there.

I know, right?
It's a mask. In all likelihood, he is going to be one-and-done in Calgary. With Kiprusoff coming back soon, and barring a trade, he will be lucky to get in another 10 games with this team. If Ramo does come over and Kiprsuoff comes back, MacDonald could easily go back on waivers.
I don't think he was too worried about what his mask would look like. I'm surprised he even bothered to get a special one made.

I think Mac the truck is terribly cute, and sort of fitting image for a backup goalie. "Not the star, just doing his job", that sort of thing.
Not the prettiest mask ever, but at the end of the day it's just mask. As long as it's in the right colours, it's cool.

as YYC said - they don't pay for ANYTHING!!!
back in the day my dad was a rep for a goalie pad manufacturer. they tried to get vernon to wear their gear but he wanted to much $$ to wear it... yup... the manufacturer not only supplied the gear free of charge, but also pays the player to wear it
i know there is no love here for justin schultz, but his uncle was over this morning and was saying that rbk wasn't giving justin what he wanted (i'm assuming financially) to use their sticks, so he's switching to bauer

You could think of it like instruments. I see Billie Joe (green day) playing with a Gibson Les Paul. I now want to get that guitar, because it's a good guitar, and my favourite frontman uses it. Therefore, when i have, say, 2k laying around I buy it. Gibson makes money that way. Gibson sponsors bands. Same goes for goalie equipment, I see that Kipper uses a Warrior stick, I want a Warrior stick. You see Crosby in Reebok commercials, that's because Reebok supplies him with gear and money, so he does commercials with them to promote their product. NHL players definitely don't pay for their own gear. I can, however, see them having to pay for the design on their helmet. That's not a mandatory thing (see Jonas Hiller last season) and as such, it probably comes out of the players pockets.
