Cut VANFLAMESFAN some slack, guys.

The opening scene from Transformers--with the cube floating through space and Peter Cullen's magnificent voice narrating--was the stuff all of our inner eight-year-olds were waiting for. As much as I hate using the word, that opening scene was truly epic! Unfortunately it was straight down hill from there--but no one can say Transformers was all bad: 30 seconds of it was just plain amazing.

kind of like taking a large dump. the first 30 seconds are amazing, but then you realize that you have to sit there and wait for everything to finish, bored out of your mind

Eh, Transformers sucks no doubt about it, but I am sure we all like our fair share of crappy movies. I've watch and somewhat liked most of the Saw and Final Destination franchises, yet I have never seen many classic movies. Don't really know why, but I do like those movies that make good background noise while I am working or with friends.

Most of them admittedly suck, but I still intend on seeing Final Destination 5 in theaters (hopefully not in 3D).

Nobody is perfect and everyone likes their fare share of crap. Transformers was very painful to watch though, I can agree with that sentiment. Although, I think Pirates of the Caribbean was worse... Toss up really.

I wasn't even making fun of VAN.

I was serious. I think Captain America wasn't bad enough to be a popcorn flick for VAN, but not good enough to compete with non-summer blockbuster types.

It's not the fact you like crappy things, it's your need to defend it to the death that people get a kick out of.

And yet you people respond and act like I'm not well aware of that. This is all in good fun for me, but people equate me defending something to me getting upset over these things when that couldnt be further from the truth. Unfortunately for me, that's damn near impossible to prove but whatever.

The opening sequence with Blackout completely obliterating a military base was pretty sweet...that was probably the scariest the Decepticons were the entire series.

Complete Destruction of the city of Chicago was pretty evil if you ask me

Wonder if the government will try to cover up the giant amount of destruction in that city as well? How the hell did Bay come up with that? Transfomers destroyed an entire city, and yet they cover it up? Lousy Hollywood writers; one of the worst plotholes in the series.

Hahaha, not one of them, that WAS the worst of the series by far.

Clearly they used the Somebody Else's Problem field and painted the destroyed parts of the city bright pink, thus rendering it completely invisible.

ahem. Sorry to interrupt the Transformers/Bay/VFF bashing, but I thought I'd give my 2 cents on Captain America.

I enjoyed it. The superhero movies are kind of starting to lose their luster for me. Captain America is an iconic hero, but he's just not that cinematic. With Spider-man you have awesome cinmatic shots of him swinging through the city, Superman/Iron man/Thor can all fly which makes for some cool scenes. Batman is just plain badassery. But Cap just has super strength, so it's tough to go beyond him throwing his shield and hitting people further than they would normally be hit.

The acting was great IMO. I don't have a hate on for Evans that some people do as I think he's quite good. Tommy Lee Jones had a couple scene stealing lines, and Hugo Weaving was great, although his accent seemed a little patchy. Overall it was enjoyable.

7/10

I caught CA this morning as it was presented to the IT community by Symantec, an official sponsor of the film.

Thoroughly enjoyed it - the story and dialogue were above "super hero" level, and what I found most impressive was the CGI of Chris Evans' head on a puny body initially. It looked so real. The 3D, while unnecessary, was still enjoyable in some of the action scenes (jumping off tank, throwing the shield, etc).

Without spoiling it, I didn't think the movie would end how it did, but I guess they want to set up the Avengers as quick as they can - enjoyed the teaser trailer after the credits.

This is the first movie I've seen since Christmas, so I'll have to make some time to see Thor as there seems to be a bit of a tie-in.

more than a bit, without Thor coming out a few months prior i'm sure more than a few people would have been confused as to where that cube came from that gave Red Skull all his power

Pretty disappointed in the film, thought I would enjoy it, but it was just okay.

I always think of Captain America as the ultimate leader, but didn't buy Chris Evans at all in the role.
