They really had a lot to work with IMO. They could have explored how media and others build up a star to take advantage of them and then when they no longer serve a purpose they are discarded. They could have done so much and portrayed a really dark side of Hollywood after the first two or three seasons of fun, but that's just not the show they wanted to make, and I'm fine with that.
The direction they did go just didn't captivate me for 8 seasons. I thought 1-4 were great and 7 was good, 8 so far is pretty boring.

Isn't that exactly what they did last season?

Not really to the extent that I hoped they would. It's just not the show they wanted to make. I like shows that make me uncomfortable, and I just didn't find their exploration of that subject to be all that great.

There's been a jarring transition from the season 7 finale to season 8. Vince is off the hook, then it's back to everything being normal again. E and Vin just made up immediately after a 90 second conversation and there we go back to the canned Entourage moments.

Right around when Vince was in firejumpers or whatever and they did shrooms, it all went downhill from there when they stopped having adventures. And Ari's wife left him for a chef? The old Ari would have challenged him to a duel in the street while screaming at passerbyers to go fck themselves. The best part was that Vince's celebrity allowed for any of their adventures to be believable, unlike the show weeds where it just gets more and more ridiculous.

Do you watch the show or just hear about it secondhand?
Turtle is involved with Avion Tequila. You know, from Mexico? The land of Tequila?
Ari and Mrs. Ari are separated. She is currently seeing Bobby Flay. She started seeing him after they separated.

Not to mention he was about to go on a murdering rampage regarding said Bobby Flay.

The most obvious thing has been the lack of consistency and the failure of Entourage to have any resemblance of a plan season to season, and sometimes even episode to episode. Doug Ellen even admitted early on he had no idea what was going to happen next and how poorly he believed Season 4 was. I was invested on the show early on when the first few seasons aired because I felt like the show had direction and was truly telling a story. It's still an enjoyable half hour of television and will get a few laughs out of me. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just got around to seeing the latest episode, oh man was that bad. Am I the only one who is sick of Eric and Sloan? It was fun for awhile but their song and dance every other season is just getting tired. At this point even if they get back together (which they mostly likely will) it won't be authentic because its been done so many times before. Turtles plight is lame and forced and like so many other things in this season is just a recycled story line from earlier seasons - see Jamie Lynn Sigler. Vince is boring, I really have no vested interest in him any longer. Johnny and Ari are the only reason to keep tuning in at this point, oh and can Scott just go away? Can someone explain to me why his character is necessary? My high hopes for this season have basically flat-lined at this point.

Johhny and Ari remain the only two people I keep turning in for as well. Drama's character has been horribly misused the entire show IMO.

I agree with a lot of you regarding the weakness of the season so far. Its probably a good thing the show is ending. You compare the weak writing and plot lines to shows like Curb, Game of Thrones and even Breaking Bad and Entourage seems second rate. Lets hope they wrap up with some great episodes, because right now its way below what the show was capable of at its best.

Is Entourage as good as it was 6 years ago? No, but think the Entourage 6 years ago wasn't as good as you all make it out to be. It was never Citizen Kane...

Sloan mentions to Eric that she is moving to New York and when Eric gets off the phone he tells the guys that she is moving. Then Drama says "wow, poor guy must f*** like dog sh**". Had me laughing my ass off.

To me, it's always been a fun show. It's never had amazing, well thought out storylines with amazing characters or anything. The acting was never top notch, outside of Piven who kills it everytime. There's a reason it never gets any kind of legitimate award buzz. In the grand scheme of things, it was never that "good" of a show. Was the show funnier 6 years ago?? No doubt about it, but that doesn't mean the last few seasons have been awful either.
It's a fun 30 mins on a Sunday. Nothing more, nothing less. Some people take this show way to seriously when critiquing it.

Entourage will never be a pillar of great television, it could never hold a candle to other great HBO programs (The Sopranos, Six Feet Under) nor do I expect it to be. I understand that it's basic escapism and that it's hard create 8 seasons worth of a perpetual fantasy world for young adult males. But just because it's meant to be a bit lighter and more 'fun' doesn't mean that it should be free from any type of criticism. Take Curb Your Enthusiasm for example, the same could be said about it as Entourage, that it's fun and a comedy, that you shouldn't take it too seriously, and that it's hard to continue series based on such a lose premise for 8 seasons. But you take the new season and it's just as fresh and funny as it ever was, can the same be said for Entourage's new season?
If you want to 'turn off your brain' and 'have some fun' for 20 minutes on Sunday nights, more power to you. But I don't think that Entourage would have ever been as successful as it has been if that is all it has to offer its audience, nor I do think that's all Doug Ellin had in mind when he first created the show.

The last 2 episodes haven't even been that. No one is saying the script has to be award worthy but it needs to at least be engaging and entertaining. The show seems either lost or lazy at times, it has nothing to do with taking it too seriously. Like I said, at its best the show has had engaging plot lines, great characters, and rock solid entertainment value. These aren't expectations we're coming up with from nowhere. Entourage set its own bar and has been failing to live up to it.

Personally, I find Bobby Flay smug and highly annoying, so I can't wait to see Ari take him down a couple pegs.

I understand what you mean in terms of the show seeming lost at times. They seem really interested in exploring something one season, and then hit a massive reset button the next season.

A better episode tonight and more along the lines of what most thought we would see this season.
Still seems to be lacking a little flow though, as some of the major stuff from last week didnt really carry over to this week.

Very few laughs, but a solid episode IMO. I thought the ending was predictable, but it does make you wonder how Vince will be after this.
The Drama/Dice storyline is pretty interesting as well. Love Billy's reaction to Jamie Kennedy behind the mic. That was Jamie Kennedy, was it not?
Looking forward to next week for sure.

I'm pretty sure that was Jamie Kennedy. I really liked Kim Coates in this episode, he is a great actor (and Canadian!). The ending was crazy to say the least.
This season is turning out to be great, but I think with their new story lines, they could even go for another season, only 5 episodes left now.
