Schmaltz is a #2 C. What do they cost on the trade market? A 1st plus.
That’s why moving Monahan as part of a deadline deal doesn’t make a lot of sense - you’re paying twice.

Was thinking about Schmaltz as option before his recent scoring tear.
Jarnkrok & Stastny are at the top of my wishlist.

If Monahan is going I really hope it is for a rental.
Could a team look at him and understand he is not a Sutter type player and think they could rebuild him a little with a change of scenery?
I have thought a Monahan-Debrusk deal makes sense for both sides as the B’s have been after a center for a while and have good wingers they could play with Sean. Flames make that deal then send picks/prospects for Jarnkrok that would be some nice work

I just can't believe CP is seriously discussing "getting rid of Monahan". Such an impossible and implausible thought even a year ago.

However you brand it, it’s needed to not only retain our top players but potentially add for this season.

Can anyone see some type of dvorak, chariot deal coming in the next couple of days?
Has been speculated on elsewhere but would Dvorak be an option out of Montreal?

Dvorak is currently playing worse than Monahan.

Monahan, Valimaki, 2nd (CGY) ($6.8M for Monahan hit + Valimaki's AHL hit)
for
Connor Brown, and Chris Tierney ($7.1M)

I threw that exact package out the other day
Monahan+Pelletier for Dvroak+Charoit. It was my justification to the “rumor” the Flames were still into Charoit and the Habs love Pelletier.
DvorK makes $4.4 for 3 more years after this so if he is a legit second line C that would be huge for the Org especially when they are likely going to have to go over $10M per for each of Johnny and Chucky. Lindholm and Dvorak as your top 2 C’s for the next could of years coming in at 4.85 and 4.45M respectively is how you afford 2 wingers making over $10M
Maybe the Flames add a 2nd or something else but I would have interest in that deal

The writing has been on the wall for a while. The team itself has been shopping him for a couple years now.

Dvorak is signed for 3 more years after this year. I have a feeling if they are moving out Monahan it will be for a definite upgrade on an expiring deal to make a push this year and free up money for next year.

Doesn't need to be an upgrade if it clears money, as long as it doesn't hurt the team. The issue is that, though he's a whipping boy, there's not a lot of equivalent guys available, let alone an upgrade, on teams that want to absorb the salary for a year.

Don't trade Valimaki, Pelletier or 2023 1st rounder. We need them next year to fill the roster as they are cheap and good young skilled players.

This! We have 2 of our top 6 who have played themselves out of our cap space.
