I like proposed scenarios where we fleece other teams a lot more than scenarios where we get fleeced. So thanked.

Elliot would be part of the return.
They talked abut this last night and made the point that Hart and Talobt have an established relationship and work together in the off season. You want the right mentor/backup for a guy as young as Hart, so this move would make some sense.

Huberdeau is also speculated to be available, but I bet Tallon would rather give up Hoffman than Hubs. Hoffman also has 45 points in 55 games, that's great production.
We all know Tre doesn't want a pure rental, and Hoffman has another year after this at 5.1 million. We'd have to clear some cap room to make this happen, but I think that's where you'd have to give one of Frolik or Stone, plus one of our young defensemen.
Might be a good option if Stone, Duchene or Panarin are priced way too high.

Trust me, we don't want Hoffman.
Yes, his scoring stats are good, but he is an absolute tire fire defensively.
He is also reliant on the powerplay to generate ~50% of his points. Coming to Calgary, he wouldn't be touching the top unit, so his scoring would take a noticeable hit.
Agree, attractive player on the surface with his counting stats. But the underlying way in which he generates those points, plus his defensive lapses doesn't scream dead line acquisition to me.

Maybe, but if they want Stone they are going to be in competition with several teams.
Maybe Bennett/Kylington/1st for Stone and Nilsson or something.

Plus, he's LW which isn't a real need for Calgary and he's not big and tough. Not good defensively means he can't fit on the second line.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
A few teams have thought about giving pending UFA Talbot a test drive for rest of the season to see if he can find his fastball with them. Carolina was a team briefly debating this internally weeks ago. Philly would be a good fit if Flyers decide to go ahead (mentor to Hart)
Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug
The Oil need to shed some money, which the rest of the league knows and Talbot makes a lot, so can't imagine the return for him will be too high if a deal happens. I'd guess a goalie in return and not a lot else.

Bob McKenzie thinks the Flames will look long and hard at the goalie position. He also says the Jets are going to work really hard to get Mark Stone.

In the off-season, I definitely was not a huge fan of Bennett. However, I think he has carved out a nice little role for himself as a 3rd line guy and I am glad that I was wrong.
I personally don't think he will ever be a consistent Top 6 guy and his value is pretty high at the moment (or higher than it was before). I would be okay trading him if the return meant Stone.
1st+Bennett+Kylington+Frolik for Stone (re-signed) --> Although, I have faith that if Treliving trades that much for him, he has a pretty good idea if he can re-sign him.

Smith for Talbot.. make it happen Treliving!
Although, I remember reading on here that Treliving was told to screw off from the Oilers.

Flames acquire Mark Stone and Jonathan Quick.
Sounds perfect to me.
Nashville, Calgary, and Winnipeg are going to battle it out for Duchene and Stone I bet. Will be interesting to see where the chips fall.

No way the Jets can re-sign Stone, with all the current guys they need to re-sign so he'd be a pure rental for sure. Their draft pick isn't going to be that attractive (same for Calgary or Nashville though). I'm not at all sure they have any young NHLers or prospects that Ottawa would want though, aside from guys like Connor that they aren't parting with.

I could see some huge blockbusters in the Jets future. They have 3 major RFA’s this summer and I don’t think they keep all 3. If they get Stone it could be 2 of them gone and I would guess Laine and Trouba. I see no scenario that Trouba would return next year anyway.

When we traded for Hamilton it had to have been for Bennett.
When we traded for Hamonic, obviously Bennett was going the other way.
When we traded for Lindholm, of course the Hurricanes were getting Bennett so both players would get a change of scenery.
Bennett "has" to part of the package for a Mark Stone that is presumably NOT re-signing in OTT?

Jets could pull it off if they move a couple of those RFA’s this summer.
Laine for a top 5 pick?
Trouba for the classic 1st and 2 2nds?
Sign Connor and Stone

Treliving definitely has a soft spot for Bennett and I think he really believes in him. I see a scenario where Sam has a good playoff and the Flames sign him to a 4-6 year deal this summer. I could also see a scenario where both sides decide they need to move on (or at least Bennett wants a change) but I don’t see any trade happening that involves Bennett until the summer at the earliest.

Well, sure - I assumed they'd keep them all, but you are definitely right about Trouba - he's gone. I just can't see them moving Laine or Connor.
Myers and Tanev are up as UFAs, and the Jets also need to extend a bunch of younger guys like Petan, Brossoit, and Roslovic, who all merit raises.

The Jets have their 1st and 2nd the next 3 years. I think Vesalainen, Niku and Comrie would be their best F, D, and G prospects, but that’s just a guess.
