There are rumours that the Sens are leaning towards firing DJ Smith and replacing him with Patrick Roy. Roy was interviewed before for the Sens coaching job and apparently he was approached back in June to see if he would be willing to take over mid-season if the Sens were under performing.

Take it with a grain of salt. I was told this by someone who works in the periphery of the Sens and hangs out with some of the players, but I don't know his actual source. Could just be Orange Julius stuff.

They weren't suggesting they had inside knowledge but were just coming up with ideas on who they want from Edmonton and Calgary given both teams suck right now. That would be a terrible trade for the Flames even if a 1st is included given how low the 1st would be.

It's because the Leafs suck and all of Trelivings depth moves (Reaves, Bertuzzi, Kilngberg) are failing miserably on the ice and with the fans so far.

Such a fickle market, if Bertuzzi gets a couple points the next few games, all will be well.
And all Toronto media outlets have to have hot takes so they can stay ahead of all the other competitors.

Terrible deal for the Flames. They have a chance to reset themselves a little bit with getting futures for their free agents and a high pick next year. They do not want a rental for Hanifin at all.

If the Flames trade a Dman to the Leafs I would be fine taking back Brodie or Klingberg as cap dumps but the main piece needs to be picks/prospects.

There is nothing on the Oil they could offer realistically that would make me want to help them by adding one of our D. Sure Holloway would be okay but not worth giving them an advantage

That seems pretty fair actually. Leafs might want the flames to retain some salary for that.

Treliving was known to refuse any top prospects in any trades during his time with the Flames. Notable exception is Fox, but he didn't want to sign here.

This year is their window. Having to sign Nylander or move on for nothing at the draft other than prospects isn’t going to help them. Markstrom and Tanev give them a chance.
