Based on the player being offside
Stated also that apparently linemen have been instructed that if in doubt they were to keep the flag down and VAR would sort it out later

Looooooooooooooch
Damn that was close.
Good game by Iran. Spain was very shaky on defense when the attack came to them.
Bring on Ronaldo and his crew!

Bunch of 1-0 wins today with no real surprises or excitement.
On the docket for tomorrow:
6:00 AM MT: Denmark vs Australia
9:00 AM MT: France vs Peru
12:00 AM MT: Argentina vs Croatia
Denmark vs Australia and Argentina vs Croatia should both be good evenly matched affairs tomorrow, France should easily handle Peru.

That Croatia/Argentina match will likely be the best we've seen in this tournament so far.
Croatia have points and Argentina need them so it wont likely be a lackluster affair.

Wouldn’t write off Peru against France, they weren’t bad in their first game they just could not finish.

Spain vs Portugal set a pretty high bar.

That game literally had everything. No chance there's a better match in the tournament.
6 goals, fantastic free kick, Nacho's unreal half volley, a PK, a goalie blunder, a semi controversial goal, great crowd, two rivals.
Couldn't ask for more.

Just watched it on the PVR, fast forwarded a few bits. Yes, up until Spain scored at 55 minutes it was a the most egregious display of anti-football I have ever seen. Iran was essentially playing a 6-4-0. I have never seen a game where with the exception of two or three minutes the centre forward was standing at the edge of his own penalty area for an entire half.
This works out better for the next round, Iran will have to score against Portugal to advance.

Huge game for the Aussies tonight. A win would give them a good shot at advancing but I will take the draw to keep them alive.
Interesting fact of the day: The Danish Crown Princess is Australian. I imagine there will be some tension in the royal house during the game.

The TSN analysts showed their formation had the centre forward about 14m ahead of the back line.

I think the worst thing about Iran playing that way is it was so close to working. There is no reason not to take a shot at it in that sense. Sure, it's terrible, but imagine if they scored on one of their chances and Costa doesn't get the lucky ricochet off his knee? I would be so disappointed if Canada made it to the WC one of these times and then played anti-football though. I can't stand watching it, and it just reminds me of this kind of stupidity:

Not everyone can put 10 men behind the ball or else everyone would do it. Iran still showed great discipline.
Canada has never played this way. Not even in 86.

Yeah and discipline is great, but seriously what fan can get into a couple hours of that? It's just terrible.
I realize Canada hasn't played that way, and thankfully so. I think I would rather my team lose than not attempt to play.
