I've been wondering about this for some time too. I asked earlier in the thread but it was quickly buried as the events unfolded.

Lots of pictures going around facebook of the soldier ...one the same day he was killed, and another the day before it is really sad to see

Brandon Stevenson is receiving counseling, as per media reports. He chased after the gunman for a few yards but turned back to help his friend.

I have a family connection with the president of Moosehead. After reading this post, I passed on the suggestion that they should give Vickers a lifetime supply of Alpine.

That's why you don't see the military involved in domestic terror investigations.

Canada doesn't really have Posse Comotatus, however if the government wants the military to participate in civilian law enforcement that has to be amended by the government.

However like the U.S. the military can provide its own armed security at its own facilities and at government facilities at the request of the Federal Government. Canada can also use the Military to protect persons on the request of the government.

But the Military isn't going to put an armed guard at a war memorial or any other public sector unless something like the War Measures Act is enacted.
I heard from unconfirmed but reliable sources that JTF-2 was actively involved in the situation. Which seems to be normal in Canada, but not really often talked about.

Could he not have been radicalized by someone other than an imam?

I would assume that where radicals don't have their own institutions, they may attend moderate insitutions to look for possible sympathisers.

I'd be extremely surprised if he ever has to buy a drink again

This guy was a eff up before he found Islam, he just substituted one version of ######baggery for a second, I doubt he needed anyone to help him misread his faith.

I'm just saying that radicalism isn't necessarily going to be open. It can be hidden, subversive.

It is less about this specific guy than it it is a general comment.

I do t disagree but I suspect most of the indoctrination is going on online,
There's no doubt a version of CP for Muslim wackos out there, caliphate puck or something.

I doubt that JTF-2 was actively involved, however JTF-X might have been.

Which is part of the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command. Since part of their mandate is to track over seas threats, this would fall into it.

"Burninator" Out of curiosity do you know if they are working rifles with ammunition?"

In the armed forces we used to have to do a yearly BFT (fitness test) that involved completing a 13km march with full combat load (about 70lb). The test has since been changed but we used to do the march around the city with our actual c7 rifles (no ammunition obviously) with a yellow barrel plug inserted so as not to scare the public.

There were still complaints from civilians mostly about soldiers having guns in public places so we were then given bright orange weighted rubber rifles for our fitness test instead!

Glad that's over with.

Delete that post.

Don't give ISIS threats any air time. Don't make other Canadians scared. Don't post anything they post. Don't help the cause.

A solider was murdered. Shot from behind. Repeat that and remember him. He stood for us by wearing that uniform. He died for us because of a uniform he wore, on guard at a monument for other who died in the line of duty.

A hero was born in the house of commons. Despite praise, he looked like he was going to cry for the deed he did. What a true hero.

Repeat that.

Don't give ISIS anything.

Okay, something's happening here- in NYC a few hours ago some jerk attacked NYPD officers in Queens with a hatchet.

The guy was shot by one of the officers who wasn't being attacked. There were 4 officers.

This occurred when the officers stopped to pose for a photo. The hatchet guy was hiding behind a pole, like a stalker.

Perhaps you want to start a thread about it; I'm about to fall asleep.

Stay safe!!!
