Laine in Dallas is as scary as it gets when it comes to firepower. Actually Smashville too.

Seems redundant to have Laine in Nashville now that they have stamkos. They both would need to play the same role on the top powerplay unit in order to live up to their contracts.

Unlike Edmonton, most teams run 2 PP units. And Laine is going to apparently be at a huge discount with double retention.

As long as he comes to the West and makes a strong team stronger. Better luck next year Edmonton.

I still very much like Tomasino, but I’m not sure where he would fit here. Good, young F with speed.

Despite the surgery, Hakanpää’s future was still unclear — after his procedure, the Stars never provided a timetable for his recovery. Further to this, since his agreement with the Maple Leafs was reported, there has been some doubt as to whether or not he will be healthy enough to suit up for another NHL game.
According to Postmedia’s Steve Simmons in a report on July 1, Hakanpää’s status is much more bleak than anticipated, with sources telling him the defenceman’s injury is bone-on-bone and severely impacting the joint. Simmons further reported that those familiar with the Finn would be shocked if he played in the NHL again, though the Maple Leafs clearly disagreed

Sounds like Hakanpaa, the dman that Treliving may have signed may not ever play another game in the NHL. Have to do the homework before you make the signings.

I want to see Edmonton trade away every single one of their draft picks for the next 3 years and still lose.

Regardless of if the Flames are involved or not, if a Laine trade happens I really hope he lands somewhere that he can turn his game around and fulfill his potential. He was such a fun player to watch in early in his career.

Is there a direct link to Waddell's quote about Laine not wanting to play another game in Columbus? I just heard some paraphrasing that indicated there are elements in the locker room that Laine doesn't want to return to

Real shame about Hakanpaa. I have picked him up routinely in Hockey pools, great guy to pick up blocks and hits with, he's a machine.
Re: Sec's rumored teams.
Columbus has been looking for a solid goalie solution for a while and has a strong russian contingent. With the Askarov news kicking into 2nd gear, could this be the Nashville-Columbus link within Sec's rumor?
Laine and Dallas- I think this is totally out of left field. Laine and Pavelski are not the same type of player... but maybe they want a bit of a change. Definitely fits with some of their finnish contingent.
So... what are the pieces?
My guess:
Columbus
Out: Laine, Sillinger
In: Askarov
Dallas
Out: 1st 2025
In: Laine
Nashville
Out: Askarov
In: Dal 1st 2025
Calgary
Out: Laine Retention
In: Sillinger
Something like this may fit. Though, I am not sure it's quite enough going to Nashville for Askarov, and I don't think quite enough to us for the retention. Maybe another pick here and there balances.
The other possibility is it's bigger than this... but that doesn't jive with rumors that we're largely done player movement until start of season.
The other rumored players who could be moved that I could see:
Rasmus Andersson - been soft rumors about him all summer. I could see Columbus being interested, and him being interested too.
Kent Johnson- over a year of rumors he's unhappy in Columbus.
Columbus
Out: Laine, Sillinger, Johnson, 2nd 2025
In: Askarov, Andersson
Dallas
Out: 1st 2025
In: Laine (retained)
Nashville
Out: Askarov
In: Dal 1st 2025, 2nd 2025
Calgary
Out: Laine Retention, Andersson
In: Sillinger, Johnson

Those look like some reasonable trade options given the pieces involved. Would be happy with those from a flames side.

You'd have to think that getting Sillinger for retention is a little optimistic?

It's a lot of retention. 2 years at 4.3 ish per year. We have to dump a first for less of Monahan.
I think Sillinger's value has also declined. He's approaching Bennett value.
If anything, IMO we are asking for pretty little to stir the drink here.
