Luongo tried to catch it but he couldn't. He would have held on to it if he could. The worse play on that was Niedermayer being a pylon. Clear out the men from the front of the net, don't let them go behind you. When you are down a goal let the goalie see the shot and take away the low plays. Shots from far out the goalie will stop. Niedermayer failed on every aspect on that last play. That cost them the goal and then Niedermayer made another bonehead play in OT that almost lost the game.

So Pres. Obama bet on Team USA? That's at least 2 in a row he's missed on, he also picked the Colts in the Super Bowl.

It just occurred to me that there were almost no penalties in that game.

It was an error, but there were several other errors in that sequence, some of which were much more directly related to the goal (such as allowing 2 forwards behind the defense to remain unchecked). Harping on Luongo for not catching it but making no mention of the other players who failed to clear it and missed their checks is kind of silly.

I can only imagine what people would be saying if Luongo let in a goal like Miller did in OT.

as it should be. Olympic gold medal game, game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, those deserve to be determined by the players on the ice, not the men in stripes

No. Canada will be the favourite. Don't forgey guys like Stamkos and Tavares didn't even make the team. Toews and Crosby look more than capable od defending the Gold.

From the New York Times blog of the game. . . .

From the moment he called Sidney Crosby’s game-winning goal (“It’s over. The gold medal to Canada!”), NBC’s Mike Emrick stayed silent for 1 minute 40 seconds. He gave all the silence he needed to see the joyous reactions of the gold medal-winning Canadians or the disconsolate Americans. Then, he came back, not with a recap, but with four words: “Now comes the handshakes.”

Canada's young players were some of its best, and we got a whole other crew of youngsters who are awesome.

Canada is in good hands.

But we are losing so many key players. Niedermayer, Pronger, Boyle; who will replace them? Phaneuf? Iginla will be 37 , Thornton, Marleau 35. It'll be tricky replacing so many players.

What? We could have made a second team from all of our spares and on paper still would have been better than the states.

Stamkos, Bouwmeester, Carter, Jordan Staal, Phaneuf... Lots of good young players who didn't even make the team who will still be around in 4 years to replace the old guard, plus who knows what kind of great young players will be drafted between now and then.
