LA was much improved this season. And Vegas looks to have a few years left in their window.

He did apparently test the market though and then circled back.

It's like when Tanguay signed with the Flames as a free agent, just with less time in between. Playing for the team previously probably helped.
Tanguay left and came back.

Zadorov signed what 2 days into FA, he still cost a draft pick to bring in and was signed to a 1 year deal.

Bah, eff what the pundits are spouting right now. It's all the fashion in hockey "media" to hate on certain teams, and right now it's the Flames turn on the Hate Spot™. IMO Conny has been dealt the worst of hands and is coming up Milhouse at every turn.

Worst case scenario for 2025 is we pick 30 and 32

Flames pick is 11 so it gets transferred to MTL. Panthers and Devils meet in the ECF

San Jose will I think... might be a few years because yeesh were they historically bad. Celebrini and Smith is a pretty potent 1-2 punch down the middle, and they have real quality young guys on the wing... go out and fill out some gaps in the bottom of the forward roster with defensively responsible two way forwards and make a few big adds on the blue line and I think they could be something in time.

Lol. This feels like an unnecessarily Charlie Brown-like post.

Actually worst case scenario is FLAs pick is top 10 and the Flames end up with #2 OA, we give the Canadiens pick 2.

Okay, best case scenario is we pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall in 2026

Man, we would instantly become a dynasty! Especially with our 9th overall in 2024 and 1st overall in 2025 in our lineup to go with those top 3 picks

I chose whelmed.

This has probably been discussed but I would have preferred either retention or conditional first rounder but not both. And what was the hurry? If you're not trading for picks in this year's draft, then there's a lot of time to get a better deal.

Very happy with the return.
The Flames already have 6 first rounders in the next 3 drafts, with the possibility of adding more. Coleman, Mangiapane, Kuzmenko, and maybe Sharan-Goal-vich still on the move.

But we would still come away with a top 10 pick. So I feel like the other scenario is worse.

There is some hurry, depending on how you see the goalie market going. Right now, there are multiple teams coming off playoff losses all clamouring for goalies, which is driving up the price. In a couple of months, these teams will be thinking a little more rationally/long-term and many of these teams will have their goalie situations sorted.

It's possible the goalie market gets even better in the future, if teams really start going crazy with bidding wars, but I doubt it. Now was likely the right time to act.

It’s not like you’re going to get McDavid for a 34 year old goalie.

We got a first round pick and a huge defenseman that can step right into the lineup. We also freed up $4 million of cap space.

Bravo conman.

You left out Makar signing here at a hometown discount.

There is a hurry, the goalie market is heating up as Conroy said himself.

We get no 1st rounder without retaining salary.

It’s a meh trade to me. Happy we are clearly rebuilding (despite the semantic angst). Happy Marky is gone to make room for Wolf. Happy to have another 1st in the next three years. Bahl seems interesting.

But I fell victim to the hype and got used to the idea of a more immediate pick and Holtz. That’s more my problem than any indictment of the trade.

Holtz and Bahl are interchangeable to me not a big drop off. We are also winger heavy. Holtz would have been buried here and probably have the same issues he has in New Jersey.

Bahl probably has a better chance of making an impact on the team.

People wrote Jacob off last season and were hoping we’d be able to unload him for a 5th.
He now gets us a 1st and a serviceable defensive defenseman that’s 23 and now it wasn’t enough?

I swear some people are never pleased no matter what.

Would I have liked the 10th pick? Sure.
But realistically I don’t think it was worth the rumoured cost.
This was a win, maybe a slight win but a win none the less.

IDK Holtz is on the 2nd line of a good team. Bahl goes from the 3rd pair at NJD to the 3rd pair here. But you are probably right, it’s splitting hairs.

On to the next trades!

If you are referring to me, I am ‘whelmed.’ Not displeased, not pleased. We didn’t win the trade and we didn’t lose it. It’s meh.
