I'm glad we've moved on from the old news of Sutter being fired to the fresh and exciting discussion of Sam Bennett.

Just bush league from Ball (who I generally like)

Bringing it back to Sutter, what did you folks think of the Phaneuf trade?

Well isn't that exactly where this organization falls flat time and time again?
Successful franchises put these players in positions that suite and compliment their skillsets which in turn allows them to establish themselves and build confidence from the get go. Expecting these talents to come in and "earn" minutes while playing in a role they have never been asked to play at in any level prior is absolute lunacy and is such an outdated mentality.
We saw it with Bennett. We saw it with Ruzicka. We saw it with Valimaki. We even saw it to a small degree with Phillips.
Hell it even took this organization five full seasons before putting Gaudreau and Tkachuk together. The lack of foresight this organization has continually displayed is quite frankly embarrassing.

Be patient. Once we give everyone a chance to post the same thing they've posted about Bennett 100 times over the past 4-5 years just ONCE more, then we can get to the new takes. We're so close.

And the can’t miss hit of posters who post more about what other posters are posting than anything useful.
Over in the Florida series thread I found this. It’d be good here

Who knew all you had to do was let the guy grow up, leverage his natural leadership, give him proper icetime and allow him to play to his strengths? I mean sure... quite a few of us knew that, but you can't expect a Hall of Fame bound coach with a lifetime of hockey experience to know that, can you?

It isn't like it was one coach in his way to succeeding. He played for five different bench bosses in 7 years in Calgary.
All of them were in Bennett's way?
Team certainly could have done a better job; so could have the player. (is that beating a drum?)

Yeah, he clearly has value, but kind of is what he is at this point. Good player but clearly not someone who should have went 4th overall. Ohh if only Edmonton had botched the pick before us and taken him instead of Drysaddle...

He has to let everyone know he's aware of other posters posting about other posters in between times he tells everyone he prefers not to post about other posters while other posters are posting about other posters.
What would we do without that content?

Frankly, with Tkachuk's season, Bennett should have had more Lindholm-like numbers.
EDIT: The Flames obviously didn't wait long enough or put him in the right situation. I wonder if they can do a reverse and snag an underperforming C like Byfield.

That is probably a decent market to be in. Teams have trouble valuing good players who under-acheive their draft position.

They’re not gonna win with all of them north of 30.

A little off topic, but this is the type of mindset that holds Canadian teams back.
It reminds me of a couple years ago when everyone wanted to trade Gaudreau/Tkachuk and start a rebuild. You don’t build a winner overnight.
You continue to add pieces, gain experience, and let your younger players grow and mature.
Heck I remember last off season a surprisingly large contingent of fans saying they were happy with Tkachuk wanting out because of lack of playoff success.
Now look at him - 25 years old and leading the entire league in playoff scoring.

Last time I saw you, you were telling me it was just my opinion that Sutter had a shelf life. Ridiculing me for using reason and daring to think that my opinion was right
At precisely that time, the news came out that Sutter was turfed
And you did get quiet for a while
That was nice while it lasted
That will be all I have to say about you. Thanks for your interest

This reads a lot like a poster who posts more about what other posters are posting than anything useful.
I feel like someone just made a comment about that. You should listen to them. They are clearly very smart.

OK then...
I am finding that I am rooting more for Love as HC than anybody for GM. I know it has to be GM first and he/she get's to decide, but I wonder if the choice of GM will depend a little on whether they view Love as the choice.
