It's right there for everyone to see. Now you're trying to say that's not what it says?
It could be a million non-trade related things and be entirely defensible.
Maybe he's slacking in practice. Maybe he's not taking COVID protocols seriously. Maybe he has the stomach flu. Maybe he's not good in the room. None of those are trade related and according to you, every one of them are indefensible as reasons to scratch him.
|
The obvious implication of my post is that if it's not trade related, then it's performance related.
I'm not frothing at the mouth here. I'm simply saying if Bennett is a healthy scratch (again, not health/COVID/anything else you want to possibly mention) and it's because of his performance relative to his teammates, it's a dumb decision.

Bennett got elevated to play with Gaudreau and Monahan last game and did alright. I can’t see how last game was any more bench worthy than the previous 5.
This is trade related IMO

What this feels like is that he's now out the door in the next 24-48. Sam Bennett for his flaws isn't a quitter, and you knew he was giving everything every night. There's no reason to scratch him other than avoiding injury.
I hope we're sending him to the US for a prospect all but the most well versed of us have never heard of but will be the next Mangipane, Kulak, Ferland, Brodie, or maybe even... Gaudreau(gasp!).
A prospect would free cap space, and avoid direct comparisons. We're not getting a current top 6 player back, so if it's an NHLer, it'll feel like a loss.
I wish Sam the best of luck. I personally don't think he has enough sense between the ears to be a top 6, but go ahead and prove me wrong with a bigger opportunity. I figured it would be with the Kraken (which would have been fun, especially vs Vancouver), but as others have said, this is a great chance for CalgaryPuck to see if it was Nature vs Nurture when it came to Bennet's failings.

Its something that should have happened at times over the last 5 years, but the timing of this one seems odd. Well he should have been sent down but that ship has sailed.
See what the club looks like....could be a good thing. Certainly cant hurt that much.
Other guys that could use a night in he press box too.

I’m surprised it isn’t more.

Too many fans are convinced Bennett is far better than he is. He is a replacement level player or worse. Watching him closely last game with some of the skilled players was telling. It's high time he sits, especially given the fact he wants out. Nothing wrong with a little medicine from the coach if it inspires him to start playing with more emotion....which is the only thing that elevates his play in the playoffs.
He's a guy who handles the puck like a hand grenade and cannot even make a simple pass to his linemates. Heck he can't even muster a shot that can challenge an NHL goalie. There's no need to fear for who is replacing a guy like this when he's not using his best asset - physical, intense play.

Yeah it has to be. He’s been one of our more consistent depth forwards.
If we were doing merit based healthy scratches, Mikael Backlund should be out.
This is trade related, or Ward is a terrible coach.
...so I’d say 50/50 it’s a trade.

His best two games of the year were the last two games.

The biggest measure of whether I not I want Bennett to sit is if it makes the Flames better or worse.

I'll go with all of the above. This is trade related, and Ward remains a terrible coach.

I see this as just more horrible management.
Sam’s agent complains and he is promoted to the top 6. Crap we don’t want to set a precedent that agents whining means players get promoted so let’s scratch him instead.
I think trade offers must be coming in and the Flames are starting to get intrigued so they are holding him out of the game tonight.

He is right though. How often do we see Bennett asserting himself physically out there anymore? Certainly less than he used to. I miss that guy. Makes it easier to accept some of his ####ty decision making on the ice when you see him standing up for teammates and generally being a prick to play against.

Bennett sure has been consistent this year.
Consistently bad.
Then a "trade request thats not a trade request"
Meh. Good riddance. He brings nothing of value to the team except a short stretch of playoffs where he seems to give a damn.
