I think the biggest difference this time around is Hamilton looks to have more of an edge to his game and Brodie and Gio are better players right now then Regher and dion where.

I'm a little late to the party, but OMG
After seeing Wideman and Brodie show up a few Norris ballots last night, adding Dougie is simply amazing. How sick is our top 5?
I know lots of people rag on Engelland around here, but Engelland is very capable in my opinion, and has tons of grit.
Gio-Brodie
Wideman-Dougie
Russell-Engelland
Wotherspoon/Diaz/Schlems as callups?
Wow that is a great D corps.

Screw Bouwmeester, I'm pumped anyway. Dougie Hamilton is the real deal.

Is Brodie more comfortable on the right side? They may keep Gio/Brodie together if that's the case and build the second pairing around Dougie.

Oilers must be so bitter they didn't get him after basically offering Boston the same deal, 1st and two 2nd's. They wouldn't part with Nurse though.
Reinhart seems like a consolation prize.

With this addition you have to think our thinking changes a bit in free agency and we try too add a missing piece and try to win the cup now. Hiller stinks but as we seen in the playoffs you don't need a marquees keeper. We have the young core and our window is now wide open the next 3/4 years

Oilers might have gotten him if their GM wasn't named Peter Chiarelli.

Id love to see a Russell Hamilton pairing personally, so much defensive ability while having elite puck moving ability and skating from both sides. I think Kris would see a big gain in points playing with Dougie. Still can't believe this happened haha!

Yeah, I always wanted the Flames to get Myers because I believe he is also a big, elite RH PMD in the making and would have paired well with Russell.
Same for Dougie.
I just see Russell as more likely moving to the third pairing than Wideman.
Can't wait to find out.

For sure, I envision Dougie mentoring the less experienced Brandon Hickey, perhaps Gio get's that role too though.
Brodie - Hamilton
Hickey - Giordano

This should also be a huge boost to our second power play unit which struggled mightily. Someone gets bumped and a 6 game series could turn into a sweep.

Like I said....franchise D. Check out where Gio and Brodie were at the same age. Not even close.

Great question as it was rumored Flames almost got Myers before the Evander Kane stuff happened.
I think Hamilton is the better age fit.
Also Myers was a bit riskier coming off some bad seasons.

Agreed, I also like the idea of a Gio-Wideman pairing. Just think of the offense. 47 points in 61 games, 56 points in 80. I'm pretty sure that would be the highest scoring pairing in the league. And then Hartley can ice a second pairing with two 40 pt, #2s.

Except they were aiming for the prom queen and ended up taking home the drunk fat chick with a hump on her back. It's a consolation prize, but not one to brag about. The Flames grabbed a 22 year old defenseman who has 22 goals and 83 points in 178 NHL games. The Oilers grabbed a guy with 1 point in 8 NHL games. That is quite the consolation prize. Seems more like another participation ribbon for the team up the road.

Agreed. There were also rumors earlier in the season that GMs were livid that the Oilers won the lottery again and lots decided that any trade price would be higher if it involved the Oilers
