There are a few questions that kinda seem unimportant in terms of personal impact, yet I think the answers are absolutely vital and disqualifying for the blue bozos:

Schools should always inform parents if their child uses different gender pronouns in the classroom than they do at home.
|
1) How does the school know which pronouns are being used at home?
2) What grade are we talking about? Elementary? High school?
As a parent, I'd like to know. Not necessarily to dismiss it, which seems to always be the argument. I'd like to know also so I could support my child possibly going through transition. In the end, they are still a minor.

I wouldn't worry to much about the surplus, the way the UCP has been spending this year's must be gone, and beyond that it's really tough to predict if it comes back.
But if either party is going to blow it on things, I'd rather have it blown on things that improve society like schools and hospitals than handouts to industry. Smith's current priorities have been a bit puzzling, and I'm not really interested in paying to see my family doctor, or having tax dollars go to woo woo "medicine" practitioners.
I do appreciate you trying to come up with an answer though! It's rare I get a reply to that type of query around here.

If your child trusts you and wants support, they'll come to you. The problem is those parents that do not support it, and disclosing info such as these can lead to dangerous situations. "Outing" should never ever happen unless the person being outed has desired it. If they want the school to tell their parents, it's up to them, not a politician. Which should be pretty obvious to lovers of freedom and liberty everywhere, but here we are.

Then you should ask your child.

That's true. I'm not one of those non-supportive parents so I didn't think of it that way. I wasn't thinking about possible victims and violence. If my daughter, aged 6, started consistently wanted to be called 'him', probably out of curiosity, something she heard, I'd like to have that discussion.

Honestly, Smith and Notley both scare me in different ways. So I'll likely not vote unless I hear some solid plans over the next couple of weeks.
|
I go back to this question: if as premier they were faced with a decision and ideologically they planned to go one way but data gathered suggested that was wrong would they change their mind.
Notley has demonstrated this. Kenny during Covid demonstrated this and got kicked out as leader because of it. Smith has not.
So to me if you are unsure on policy I think voting for better governance is a reasonable place to start.

There's a lot to unpack, and ultimately any legislation isn't likely to make a huge difference on the ground aside from putting teachers/school officials in an uncomfortable position that is very likely contrary to the student's best interest. As you say, there is a lot of nuance to consider, which sure as hell is not happening in UCP legislation on these issues.

I suspect if your child is not willing to tell you as their parent but is willing to tell their teacher they do not think their parents will be supportive. Using “you” in the sense of any parent-child relationship and not you individually.

This part of this question never comes across.
The kid is using different pronouns at school, because they are scared of their parents reaction.
So the question at first glance sounds like it should be obvious “of course the parents should know!”, but in the cases where this is an issue, it’s usually the parents that are dangerous, or at least perceived as dangerous by the kids.

Remember when Danielle Smith gave the CBC an April 28 ultimatum that if they didn't retract their story about Smith talking to justice officials about Coutts blockaders, she'd sue? I 'member...

I had to say no. mostly because "law abiding", and depending how you define that. To me question means our gun laws should change to allow easier access, like in the USA.
I think there is a whole hell lot of law abiding people that shouldn't be allowed near a gun.

I didn't even read it like that.
If someone with severe mental health issues hasn't broken any laws but wants a gun... just because? Uh... man, maybe not, right?

Are you suggesting you don't think our premier should have access to firearms?
