I mean it’s pretty obvious, but sure he’s a great player so people will always get angsty when a trade is suggested.
Have you fully thought through the alternative though?
Also, are you watching him? Button hooks, always second to the puck, won’t engage.
I mean it’s not just the hilarious deer in headlight I hate my life interviews- it’s also his super ####ty play on the ice. Time to capitalize. I mean honestly he may be reaching a point of addition by subtraction soon. You could get a lot for this guy but only if you do it now. Better that then a 2nd rd pick next trade deadline for a future player that has a suboptimal chance of even playing an NHL game.
Hopefully you’re not an asset manager of any kind.

I think there won't be big trade this season, but if we could get a bigger and faster Ryan type C, it will help greatly. 13-23 needs 28. Especially In D zone. New C can play with Lucic and Dube.

His trade value diminishes almost daily, not because of play but the clock on his contract. We have until the draft to figure out if he's in it for the long haul or if he wants to play somewhere else. After that almost all of the Flames leverage is gone. The contract was a steal when it was signed. But we're paying for it now with the lack of options. And because we really haven't progressed as a team.
I love Johnny, but if he and Tkachuk both come in at 9 we are straight up boned. Let someone else deal with that shazzam.

Both JG, and MT are not worth their current contracts, much less a raise. JG is almost a detriment to the team at 5 on 5 play, as is MT.
Trade if you can find a partner IMO.

Blast at me: Mid Season Retool, Building for the future - The Riverboat Gambling
Reason: Johnny Gaudreau is an exceptional player, currently the best player in the deal below. Johnny is a flight risk, having watched this guy play nightly and give us his everything since he got here, I believe he wants to be closer to home or at worst out east. I don't hold ill will against him for it. I love this guy, always will. If he does choose to resign we are going to have to pay a premium and with a flat cap.
If we hold Johnny to long, the fear is may not get a proper return due to his contract limitations.
To Buffalo
Johnny Gaudreau
Sam Bennett
2021 2nd
2022 2nd
Conditional 1st 2023(If Johnny walks as a UFA only, If buffalo signs or trades him prior to UFA this pick will void - No Protection)
To Calgary
Taylor Hall
Dylan Cozens
2021 3rd (Conditional on Hall signing in Calgary)
The why: I believe Buffalo isn't ready to move on from Eichel and they have an opportunity to get an extremely dynamic duo up front with Johnny and Eichel. As much as we'd love to see it here we don't have the assets to acquire an Eichel type player, other teams can put together 10x the package for him we all know it.
Johnny is controlled for next year if it doesn't work out buffalo can do a major overhaul with trading Johnny and Eichel however I think this will make buffalo a huge favorite to improve long term.
Calgary is taking a huge risk here, Hall value is way down but he is a more North/South player then Johnny. If he can rebound which he will how strong is the risk - it could be a slight downgrade or a break even trade. I believe Calgary would be able to sign him long term at a lesser term value that johnny because it's home(5/6 Years -6~7/Per) which will be lesser term/dollar then JH will ever come in at.
If he doesn't Calgary lost the gamble and ends up with a Blue chip in Dylan Cozens(Right Shot) who is a young player with unknown potential but looks promising and the kid works his tail off. I personally believe he's a future Top 6 Player.
Buffalo gets the rebuild project of Sam Bennett, and two seconds which are solid picks.
The conditional first is a security blanket for Buffalo and also gives them some leverage with teams if they can't resign Johnny which my opinion will be easier then Calgary. This is leverage that Calgary doesn't even have when it comes to Johnny.

Pretty sure you can't do picks conditional on re-signing any more.
BUF isn't trading Cozens for players unsecured past 2022.

Found myself with some time to kill down in Texas a couple years back and decided to drive the old route 66 from Texas up to Flagstaff in AZ. Driving through absolutely nowhere New Mexico I crested a hill and saw a lone weathered wooden storefront with an absolutely enormous billboard above it that said PORN. Nothing else for miles in any direction, just this shambled old windowless store with the huge porn sign and I remember thinking ok guaranteed no one walking through that door is ever seen or heard from again.
Point being there is a notable portion of the fanbase that believes this is how a lot of the talent across the league views the Western Canadian market, some kind of black hole. I would be very interested to know how much truth there is to that as it could indeed be a factor.
Can't help thinking how many of us here have done exactly this, undertaken a significant relocation to a not ideal location for a very lucrative offer in the course of our careers, is this that different, definitely curious to know.

Rintool had a guy on earlier this week who was a Sabres bear writer....he thought the only untouchable forward was Cozens.

If it weren't for the Skinner deal, the Sabres would be pretty well positioned for an accelerated 2 year rebuild (kind of like the Kings). Lots of good assets to ship out over the next two years, in addition to Eichel.
Starting with:
Cozens 20
Jack Quinn 19
Dahlin 21
Jokiharju 21
G - Luukkonnen 22
Plus several guys drafted in the 30s the last few years.
Load up on D prospects + another goalie and draft forwards and they could have guys emerge/peak at the same time. Presuming of course that Dahlin
The Skinner thing is awful though. Any buyout in the next few years will carry 4.3M+ and 6.3M+ hits in '25-26 and '26-27 (the peak of their contention window if they rebuilt right). The longer they wait to buy him out the better, though it's slightly better if they do it in 2022 than the years before/after.

Apparently the Flames might be a "possible match" for Marcus Sorensen, a 28-year-old frequent healthy scratch who's been one of the worst defensive players in the league over the last two seasons.

I will be so mad if we spend assets and a two week quarantine period for a player who could just join the taxi squad... don’t do it Calgary.
For all the people hating the idea of giving Phillips a look... if this is the alternative where do you sit on the whole call Phillips up for a look scenario?

Another Philly loss tonight, man the Flyers look lost this season. I’m in favour of a Johnny trade to Philly (forward, prospect, pick?).
An Athletic article from Charlie OConner has player grades for the first half of the season and there are some surprisingly low grades for star players (Konecny, Provorov, Myers and Patrick with a D grade). I think there is value here in a down season and a Johnny trade could really shake up both teams.

Weird though. Smallish LW who scored 17 goals 2 years ago, and who’s 28 years old.

Something around Johnny + Bennett for Konecny + Patrick.
I know Patrick hasn't looked great and has had serious injury problems, but the reality is that teams aren't giving away 1st line players, so if we want to find some, they're going to have to come with some risk/warts.
