Ah the "pants shat" moment (a skyscraperpage reference on a reaction to a stellar project - wouldn't want people to get all upset and take a reference that they didn't understand literally ) was in relation to a pretty exciting development that's in the design stage.

In that case, lets set expectations really high, and assume our mayor won't disappoint us voters come election time.
You heard it hear first, the Crowchild, Bow Trail and Memorial overpass fix, has been designed and will be completed in 3 years. The city also will replace all the lights on crowchild with overpasses/4 way stops/ traffic circles within 1 year after the overpass is completed.
All funded by the Feds and the heritage fund as well.

I got the reference, but I did think the Mayor's response was poorly thought out. Obviously the two have a history together, from Nenshi's further comments, and he let his animosity for the person overcome his judgement. Which is probably what Levant was looking for, so it's a double fail.
That being said, the Pembina thing is irrelevant. I find it amusing that many who speak out against "political correctness", like the idiots at the Sun, are all for witch hunting when the witch is of a leftist bent. Who cares what the politics of the Pembina people are, as long as they can do the jobs they are hired for by the City?

Levant appears to be a loud mouth nothing. He appears to have managed to talk his way out of policitics, and appears to be radio active with the Conservatives.
No good can come from engaging in a public spat with Levant.

The old speaker's corner, stuck down under the stairs of old mac hall, by the RBC ATM. He was one of many blow hards that hung out there.
I met him once........it was once too many times.

Also I don't see what's "unprofessional" about calling out someone, especially Levant, on their tactics and usually specious assertions. That's what the Twitter exchange was. On the loaded question reference - just because someone doesn't understand the reference, it doesn't make it actually offensive.

Actually Bunk...yes it does.
Nenshi should be above all that kind of stuff as there are other means to make his point, and as mayor of a metropolis the size of Calgary he should really try and use them.
He is a fabulous mayor and his handling of the flood crisis was simply outstanding. But this crap has to stop, he is a public figure who represents over a million people and for him to lower himself to the whole wife beating thing is astounding.
I think he should apologize immediately, explain what it means because i guarentee many many dont know about it, and then set a course for some civil discussion about the subject.

The bickering on twitter needs to stop. As noted here, it has happened a few times before. It is childish and comes of extremely poor on the Mayor. Twitter is not a platform for debate. I know they Mayor is trying to be open to everyone by using Twitter in this fashion, but debating someone in 140 characters is pointless.
We all expect the Mayor to have good judgement in situations like this and look to him as a leader. This exchange has poor judgement written all over it.

I honestly don't understand how anyone could think of Nenshi's statement as offensive. Seriously, the phrase has nothing to do with the face value "literal" meaning of the phrase. It is very simply calling someone out for asking a loaded question, and that's all. If you are reading anything more into the phrase, you are reading it wrong.
There simply is not any statement made that is joking about spousal abuse, nor any statement about the personal live of Ezra, or anything else. Levant asked a loaded question, and Nenshi called him out for it.

So for every mis-step on Twitter the mayor has absolutely owned or hilariously replied to how many others baiting him? His batting average is pretty good when you look at the big picture.

I understand that, you understand that, others understand that....but many many people wont. That's the point. It comes down to perception, rightly or wrongly, and the mayor prides himself of fairness and transparency etc. This flies in the face of that for a lot of his constituents who may not have the same understanding of things like others do.

So I guess "Politics In Full Sentences" should be changed to "Politics With A Full Explanation Of The Etymology Behind Each Phrase Used As To Not Confuse The Non-Literary Minded".

It's funny, I always thought Levant was a (really poor) satirist/humourist, like Colbert or This Hour Has 22 Minutes style. It's kinda weird that he is actually serious.

What?
As much as you dismiss those that won't understand the "loaded question" reference that Nenshi posted, they are still his constituents as much as those that do understand what it all means.
As an example this was needed to be explained to a 14 year old boy, who is a huge fan of Nenshi and follows him religiously on twitter. He came to me with it as i was watching football yesterday and even after a bit of a discussion and explanation, he was still somewhat confused as to the context. This is a child who saw his mother abused by his father when he was young.
Im merely pointing out how poorly thought out the reference is, and how it most certainly can be offensive to others, including many who are his direct constituents. That's all. Whether you agree or not is irrelevant, as its a completely valid observation.
